Title: Your EM Slot
Post by: Bally Bill on December 04, 2016, 07:04:18 AM
Happy Holidays! I know we talk about EM models, parts, problems and solutions but how often to you actually play your machine? If you have more than one EM slot which one is your favorite? I play 7 days a week,10 minutes in the morning before I go to work and 30-45 min with my mother in law at night. I favor my M/Honey kit machine because I like the reel graphics and the max payout is 200 quarters.

That's hard to say I just moved here 6 months ago from California in California friends and family all had their favorite machines heck even the old man that walked by the house had a favorite in the garage hear my game room is not finished yet it is also a storage room 402 boxes of parts for these old machines I have not invited anyone over to enjoy them yet because the game room is so bad it is embarrassing
This shows you one corner the rest of the game room is full of crap more machines in the garage into pole barns in town it is a  mess

Don't play my machines that often. Have the one I'm working on and One or Two others pluged into the same power strip. Drop a few quarters while I'm working on the machine.
Did have the 1090 on last night for a while, nice solid machine.
No machines at home yet, might bring the LowBoy sometime in the future.
Hard to choose a favorite machine, but quarters over nickels.
I guess it would be the double progressive, as there is a good chance my parents played it back in the 60s.
Also like the feel of the bigger machines 1088 1090.

David don't deny your self of some EM slot fun! I didn't liked playing slots in the casinos and only visited them for the wife/M-in law to play, now that I have them at home I find myself addicted to the game...recently went to a local casino and I just could not get into the new slots machines
Title: Re: Your EM Slot

Playing the EM's can be addictive. Even winning my own money is fun. Most importantly, these machines were made to be played, not let sit. If the machines sit too long then things start to gum up. So play those machines as often as you can, enjoy and keep them in good working order.

I have 3 MGM Red Glass machines, 955, 962, 989 dime machine, and a re-pop money honey. I don't get to play mine very often. I seem to be too busy fixing projects to sell. One day after my kids move out I plan on turning a bedroom into my game room. Jon has seen my house and machines. I have added to his clutter. He took home 5 EM machine from my garage last month. One is that 4 reel machine. I gave him the other 4 to go thru my machine over the winter. I will be adding that machine to my other EM machines.

My favorite to play is usually the most recently fixed.   Currently 891 Super Conti.   Wife plays the 956 Jack Pot her fav.  Of course the penny machine cleans up all the loose pennys in the house.  Play all 9 slots each at least 10 minutes or more each week.  Weekends, they all stay on for at least 3 hrs to warm up completely and get some more play time.

Jim those are some cool EM slots, first time I have seen a  EM penny version and that super continental looks like a lot of fun to play but it must be a beast to maintain! Nice to know the wife digs the your  hobby and also has a favorite machine. David you have a nice EM combination too and I like the wall art also. Never seen any MGMs machines before or heard of the M/Honey re-pop. Please share some pictures of those baby's!

Here is a picture of an MGM 955 I have a matching set they are identical to Gary's 9:55
As far as penny  machine go when they changed the penny from All Copper in the late seventies early eighties they could no longer use a coin rejector due to the different weight so pretty much all penny machines were going away with at that point in time I do have parts to build one for my collection eventually
And what did you end up using to build your penny machine I remember you saying you wanted one

Bill I build everyone as I get it some take longer I've got a 3 coin multiplier I have to make index plates for and all the wiring it'll be one of the worst machine i ever built for the amount of time it's going to take I figure 40 hours it's half done now when it's done I'll post a video on my Facebook page of it running

? Just one more ?     Come on!!!

I think for 2017 i am going to try and find 3 parts machines over the year.

Of course if I happen upon a 742 or other rare machine I might have to bite.  Bought one parts machine last summer, turned out to be very helpful.  Wasn't salvageable so didnt feel bad.
Title: Re: Your EM Slot
Post by: Amechanic on December 06, 2016, 04:23:17 PM
Jim.. If your like me, I alway try to repair the parts machines first. I have parts every where. I just turned loose of 4 to Jon for the repair of my 4 Reeler pictured in his post. Do like I do here, post a WTB ad on Craigslist in your area under the wanted section. Put pictures of some EM Ballys so people know what your looking for too. My other source is a local slot machine dealer that gets them as trade ins. They usually don't want to mess with them and are happy to make a few $$ profit.
He are two pics, one is my Money Honey re-pop. It has the same strips like CP is selling here, and mines in a Black Metal cabinet. The second is my 989 Dime machine Red glass MGM dual progressive. I bought it at a local farm auction for $400.00. My other two are put away for the holidays.

Hey Gary, nice slots, like the 989.  I have the mgm 962.
First instinct is to return to original if possible.
I think I will post on CL WTB and see what may turn up, thanks.   Don't know of any dealers open to public in the area but I am going to double check.  Many people here at NLG (including you) have been great when I've needed a part.  I hope to do the same too going forward.

Hi Jim, I told the wife I have room for 1 more EM slot and that's what I want for Christmas and guess what happened? (see attachments) Its only going to be around 60 degrees tonight and the Honda generator should power up a least 1 EM slot inside my new house

My friend ... I try to play all 13 a little every day. I fixed them all and know that in the casinos, they were on 24/7  and played the same. If I dont at least keep them moving a bit, they will return to the state they were in when I found them ... Small price to pay to keep thep up and running. Now I know why the Army had them in their clubs.... cause they run like a damn tank. Bally EM's are the best machines ever made as far as I am concerned. Old reno can attest to this as well I feel.

My personal favorite is Medalist.  :-)  Super Continental with credit meter 2nd fav.

Title: Re: Your EM Slot
Post by: The Fatman on December 13, 2016, 07:18:50 PM
I do love the Medalist too. Had a good one but sold it to a friend.... yes the price was right. I picked up a Super Continental yesterday, along with a pinball machine. Got it home, protected the top glass with triple thick and now have all the innerds back in and in a few minutes, will get my meter out and start checking. Seems to be very clean and there is a good chance I will have it up and running in just a few hours.
I love wiggling my way through the maze of machines to get to the front door.

Hi Mvco, It seems like  a lot of EM slot collectors like the Super Continental because of the many payouts options or the complexity of the machine? Please post  some pictures of both of your babies when you get a chance. Dave if I had the room I would love to add more slots like yourself, to have a pinball machine might even appeal to the wife's days at the arcade...how many pinball machines to you have?

I have 2 Gottlieb's, a Bank Shot and a Flying Carpet. Also I have 3 Bally pins. Original 8 Ball, 8 Ball Deluxe and an old gambling bingo pinball Beach Club. I am going to list the Beach Club on CL to make more room for the flipper pins.

Hey Jon
I purchased a brand new US penny mech thinking I would have to screen the pennies that went in (or actually failed too).  What I found was it takes all pennies.  New and old.  I might talk to their shop guys next time I stop there.  Not far from work they assemble the mech's.

Hey BB,

Wife thought it would be good to have a penny machine.  She cleans out the change from her purse into the slots, no where for pennies.   Picked up a non working 956 for 200.  Real clean just "broke".   Got it working and converted from quarter to penny.

Bally made 801, penny star.  Model 846 penny queen.  Looking over index list, 742a-209 came from bally as a penny machine and a handful of 785's.
Probably a few more models but not many.

Do the machine realy payoyt 2000 coins? How big is the hopper?
Title: Re: Your EM Slot
Post by: jimliner on December 23, 2016, 06:23:13 AM
Jackpots of 400 or more coins = 200 paid by machine, balance paid by attendant.

Hopper level is set at about 1200 coins.  Pennies, nice, 12 bucks to fill hopper initially.

Title: Re: Your EM Slot

That's a lot better than a 25 cent slot which takes $200 + to fill the hopper

That was kind of a rare machine.  Production was cut short because theme was too simaliar to a Games of Neveda machine.  Production restarted with name/theme change to Gold Rush.  Went from model 1020 Mint, to model 1044 Gold Rush. Blue book, shows ~ 25 known to exist.  Theres probably more out there.

Yeah excellent information I appreciate that ,the only information that I had found was that it was made for export only hence the reason why you don't see very many of them.  Yeah my money was kind of tight there for a couple months and so I listed it on craigslist  and I got no calls on it for a long time so when this guy finally called to buy it I really do need the money at that point and he was looking for a nickel machine but I sold it and I've been kicking myself ever since
