When a topic is locked what doe's that mean? Thanks. Bill.
-
It means no additional replies can be made to the topic

Not to be rude or anything but why is this done. I kind of like to hear or read of other people who might chime in who might of had the same problem. Thanks. Bill.

On most cases the topics are locked to prevent further comments on a subject, either because it is gathering hostilities or no further comments are necessary or wanted. Also used so that another person doesn't come in and hijack the thread with what they believe to be a similar issue, and then it's not. Then the thread becomes a 2 issue thread and harder to find in the future. It is better to just start a new thread.

OK. Thanks for the info. Bill.

I know what you mean, I like to read the longer threads with lots of people adding to the discussion. But it can turn a thread into a rambling blog, and really the thread is supposed to be about 1 issue and its resolution. There are a few NLG forums/areas where the rambling is unlimited, general chitchat and such. But most are meant to be a resource for problem solving and that means keeping it on topic and as short as reasonably possible. The moderators have to use their judgement, I think their aim is to keep the site organized and guide a discussion thread. Some of us need some herding now & then. <grin>
