Title: Bally 873 reel problem
Post by: smoothgrh on June 04, 2017, 11:35:53 PM
Hi everyone,

Sorry to have to tap your knowledge. The first reel of my Bally 873 seems to just rock back and forth when I give it a spin. Is this a relatively easy fix? It started doing this after I got three BARs on the center line—just a coincidence?

Here's a video of the problem: https://youtu.be/lqj5OlVuX30

Thanks for any insights!

Your first reel appears to be hitting on something. You can pull out the reel mechanism and kick off the reels by pushing on the pump arm  and watching what happens
Make sure that your reel index wipers are lubricated and not sticking on the wiper board.

Looks like the reel index arm is not moving back and or is stuck in the narrow slot.
Index arms have small roller on the end of them.
The whole assembly should move back and forth in the slot.
Might want to check all the linkage associated with its function.
You can compare it to one of the others to see how it suppose to work properly.
Do this by manually moving them or kicking the reels as Mr. Reno stated.

Nice video, saves a lot of head scratching.

Thanks so much for your help!

The problem was simply the wires from the line played lamps on the left side somehow protruding and blocking the left reel. I tucked the wire away and now it works fine again.

As always, I appreciate the time that you give to help the clueless like me!  :hail:
