Title: IGT S2000 buzzing sound when reels spin?
Post by: Terps on June 22, 2017, 03:53:11 PM
Trying to figure out how to eliminate a "buzzing" noise that occurs when the reels are activated. The strips appear to be tight. Can someone please advise on how to troubleshoot this issue. First slot and not very experienced, please keep that in mind. The machine was refurbished and is very clean inside. Reels still spin with no problem except the small buzzing noise that is noticeable and should definitely not be happening. Really appreciate any help on this that you can provide.

In the home environment it isn't uncommon at all to hear the reels spin due to your house being much quieter than a casino floor. That being said, the older the reels get, the more noise they make, same as us. On the other hand, if you are actually hearing the noise come through the speakers then that would be a different issue. So, how loud are they and are you hearing the noise directly from the reels or from the speakers?

The sound is coming directly behind the bottom glass where the reels are and not thru the speakers. This buzzing sound was not occurring when I first bought the machine.  Machine was recently cleaned and refurbished maybe a year ago. The buzzing noise is not very loud, but easily noticeable on every spin. Enough to know that it should not be making this buzzing sound while spinning. Don't expect it to be silent, but this is a buzzing/rubbing noise. Hope this helps.

When you open the door and look at the inside of it, on the right side, is there a ribbon cable that could be hanging down and rubbing on the first reel. Sometimes that cable hangs out and causes a reel tilt. Just a thought.

Here are two pics showing the inside. The wire on the right side is close, but is not making contact to the reel. In trying to isolate the noise some more, the loudest seems to be coming from the right hand side by reel 3. Any ideas ?

Try swapping reels to see if the noise follows the reel. You may just have one getting a bit worn out. Also check to be sure your strips are seated well and tight in the reel
