Title: Noob questions - No sound at SP1014
Post by: florian2210 on August 17, 2017, 12:01:53 PM
Hey all,

I'm from Germany and I bought a slot machine (Rapid Jackpot - built year: ~1997) via ebay. It is working fine, except the sound. Doesn't matter when, the machine plays no sound. :( Really disappointing.
My slot machine has a SP1014 chip.

I've got a few questions:
* Am I right: The reset button is the lock below the "play arm"
* I've two options to go into settings: the reset button (mentioned before) and the small white button at the chip. --> Is there anywhere in the internet explained which setting will have which impact? I'm really interested in that!
* How can I enable the sound? I've played with the blue wheel on the chip, but nothing changed, still no sound. The speaker is working fine --> tested!

It would be awesome if someone can help me, especially to get more information about the possible settings. If you need more information/pictures/... let me know; i will provide!!

Thanks. :thank_you:

Florian

Hello and Welcome to NLG !

On the main circuit board (mpu board) there is a dip switch, you might try switching dipswitch #3 to ON to see if that enables the sound. If that doesn't help there are other things to check so report back what happens.

You may already know, but just in case:
The sound adjust (blue wheel) is located on the "mpu" board, which is the main circuit board in the machine. The mpu board is mounted vertically to a metal tray, it is located in the lower area of the machine. The tray has a round black knob, you can pull upward on that knob to remove the mpu board and tray assembly, it is plugged into another circuit board below that lays flat on the bottom of the machine. This smaller board that the mpu plugs into is called the "motherboard". Once you get the mpu board out of the machine you can look it over, make sure the battery is not leaking. And the dipswitch should be easily found on the board. Sometimes the sound adjust "blue wheel" has been damaged by someone that rotated it past one of its two end stops. When that happens the sound adjust part can get broken and no longer allow sound to pass thru it.

On the right-side of the machine where the pull handle is located is a reset keyswitch, it takes a key to turn it. This is commonly called the  "jackpot reset". Inside the machine is a white pushbutton that is the test/setup pushbutton, it is used to get into the menu system for setting certain operating settings. These settings are given "page" numbers in the menu system and you can step thru the various pages to check or change the different settings.

Please post photos of your machine, showing the outside and some interior photos. Attached is a document that gives more info about SP1014.

Hey rokgpsman,

thanks for your quick reply.
I've tried everything, even the menu point "50" (change melody) gave no sound feedback.
I've checkt the MPU, seems clean. No brunings etc. The MPU battery was changed in year 2015.

I think a controller or something else is defect. I need to ask an expert if he can have a look at the machine personally.

Thank you so much for the document. It helps me a lot by understanding the machine.

One question left: The test button I couldn't find. Only the keyswitch & the white one on the MPU.

Pictures are attached.

Thank you once again.

Florian

The white one on the MPU is what you want to push. I think you push it like 3 times and a 2 or 5 will show with a 0, 1, or 2 next to it. I think it should be 5-1. I know 9-1 is for the B/V enabled.

I was out of town all day, sorry, but looks like one of the other guys got you taken care of on the white TEST pushbutton. The "no sound" problem can be different things, you said the speaker tested ok so the next thing would be to follow the 2 speaker wires back to where they connect, makes sure the wires are not cut someplace and that they do get connected at the other end. Also, if you pull out the mpu board you can look closely at the volume adjust (the blue round wheel) to make sure it isn't mangled. Post a photo of the mpu board area showing the volume adjust and maybe we can see something. Your SP chip uses the dipswitch on the mpu board for certain settings, did you make sure dipswitch position #3 is set to ON?

Thanks for posting the photos, it is an interesting looking machine that I haven't see before. Did it come from a local casino near you? What are those large coins it is setup to use? Perhaps the previous owner modified the machine so that the sound would not come out of the speaker? Because you ran the TEST step 50 Sound Test and no sound was heard that makes me think the sound has a problem with audio portion of mpu board, or something in the sound path from motherboard to speaker is bad. Look carefully at the motherboard connections and wires going to it.
