Title: Problems changing from SP1271 to SP731
Post by: shortrackskater on November 04, 2017, 07:11:03 PM
I'm sure the answers are somewhere here but I sure as hell can't find them...  :hissyfit:
I haven't worked on an S plus in years...
My Coral Reef plays ONLY "We're in the money" song when it hits the spin til you win feature. I HATE that song.
It was running an SP1271 and SS4280.
I replaced the 1271 with an SP731 so I could get back more song options.
I did a clear which I wanted to do just remember how to do it. I installed the set chip and enabled the BV and set denomination which worked fine.
However now it's not accepting coins and there's no reel spin sound but there is the reel stop sound. (works with bills).
I'm trying to go into the settings according to the PRS but NOTHING is advancing in the order of how the sheet shows.
So either I am drinking too much, which I'm not, but about to... OR I'm just not getting it!
Ideas?

When you turned on the BV, did you set the denomination? Remember to set your limits also.

Mark on the SP731 dip switch #3 (on the MPU)  needs to be on to get reel sounds. Also the hopper limit is the credit limit with that chip. Are you maxing the credit limit out and it won't let you add more credits (or coins)?

Yes I set denomination, etc.
I'll check the DIP settings when I get home soon, I hope.
I didn't realize the DIP settings changed with an SP change.  :duh:
I've got the reel sounds back.  :applause:

Okay I just spend another 15 minutes on trying to follow the PSR for the SP731 and nothing, repeat nothing is in any order like what's on the sheet.
I did muster through and find the hopper limits and left them at 300.
Nothing else makes any sense.
What clear chip should I have used? I actually don't know what I have. I got the chip years ago and it worked fine for all the s plus's I had in the past.
I have a feeling I have a mismatched SP and SS. This is a nudge machine but I thought with the 731, I'd have the options to change the songs.

I put the SP1271 back in, and now the machine will accept coins! And the stupid old "We're in the money song has returned!"

Does this part of the SP731 document have anything to do with your issue? It seems to indicate you can select which songs you want to hear. Also, with SP1271 can you disable the song playing if you want to?

Yes I saw that on my SP sheet, BUT... I can't get anywhere in that entire menu. That's the problem. It's advances with each push of the self test button but NOTHING is matching what it should be.

ummm,, are you sure it is an SP731 chip and not a different SP chip, it has a label? I assume SP731 is for a 10mhz mpu, like the SP1271?

Also, since you are on the left coast it's possible that:

Mark. I have a Spin Til You Win game here that I'm getting ready to setup. It has the respin feature but this game came with a SP804. I came up with that number after reading how to determine your SP and SS chip on NLG. My SS chip is a 4452. I was surprised this game didn't play your in the money..

Longtime Member Ron R273, created the following document. I am not sure if this is the latest but it is a easy cheat sheet to modifying the various S+ options.
Once you use this for a one or two things the PSR sheet becomes pretty easy to read.

The other thing I remember is that while you can change tunes with SP731 it is not universal across all games.
I can't remember if its only certain game types or only on some themes. That information should be on the PAR sheet

I remember playing STYW in Las Vegas and liking the "stock" song it played but I don't remember what it was! And that was my reason for wanting to change my SP chip in this case, so I could have a selection. BUT your game isn't a nudge machine. Mine is that, along with the spin til you win feature but the Coral Reef version.

Jay - I have the simplified version and used it a few times with my other s plus's. But with this Coral Reef, and my SP 731, like the PSR, it wasn't even close to matching the sequence of settings with what I have.
I'm still wondering if this is an issue with my machine being the nudge type?

The song change may only work on Type 5 games.

I would try pushing the test button until a 4 appears. It will flash the SS and SP numbers. See if the machine recognizes it as a SP731. And the correct SS chip. Could be a corrupt prom also. The not taking coins is kinda strange since the 1271 allows coins in.

Problem mostly solved!
First I put the old chip back in and enabled/set all everything just to make sure my brain was functioning properly. It all worked. Then I put the 731 back in (and flipped DIP switch 3 on)  - did the usual and then put in the set chip, enabling the BV and denomination.
Then I searched the old NLG site - it's better using Goggle with "newlifegames."  I found two threads that sort of put it all together.

http://newlifegames.net/nlg/index.php?topic=1423.0 (http://newlifegames.net/nlg/index.php?topic=1423.0)
http://newlifegames.net/nlg/index.php?topic=2939.0 (http://newlifegames.net/nlg/index.php?topic=2939.0)

After reading all this, I then understood the limits of the 731 chip. I *think* my settings are correct. I'll find out later if I hit a large payout.
But the important part was I FOUND the way to change the song. Once I got to the 60 in the WINNER PAID window, I was then able to "key-scroll" through the available songs. I didn't find the one I remembered from the old "Spin Til You Win" slot but I found something at least better than "We're in the Money."
I'll post a video soon as I get my Youtube account re-established.
THANK YOU for all the help though.

Well this is what I get for being as far west as can be in the continental US... all of you are  :zzzz: :zzzz: :zzzz:

Not quite all are asleep 😴..  I'm still awake here in Michigan, now I just have to get my spin to win set up and playing correctly.  Been doing some reading on the 804SP chip. I think I have it figured out and I will attempt tomorrow.  I want to scroll through the menu of songs on this 804 chip to see if it will play you're in the money.  Nice job Mark can't wait to see your YouTube video.

Gary you'll have to post your song selection when you can.
I knocked out last night right after I got the machine going.
Here's the video of the current song. The quality looks like surveillance footage but you hear the new song. :)

I like the song, amazing how many times it continues to spin. Looks like a fun game.    :applause:

Hey Mark...  That's a cool game, never realized that Coral Reef was a Nudge and bonus spin game. I guess I have a lot to learn about the S+ games and formats.  Funny thing is that my Spin Til You Win plays that song right now, and is what I want to change out.. I don't have a YouTube account to post a video, never had one..
