Title: Ceronix Monitors CRT swapping
Post by: LuckyDog on January 09, 2024, 01:58:36 PM
Just picked up a non-working PE+ project machine.
Was told the installed Ceronix 1490 monitor is bad.

I have a working Ceronix 1492 Monitor & good spare 1492 board.
Can I install a 1492 board into the 1490 chassis?
Are the CRTs compatible with either board?
Numbering on the two CRTs I have are completely different.
Thought it was better to ask ahead of time.
Thanks

Update:
I went ahead and put my known working 1492 board onto the bad 1490 CRT chassis.
Saw one thin horizontal line positioned about an inch below the top of screen.

Sorry for no pic, but I didn't want to leave this powered up any longer than necessary.
Suspect the yoke is bad on CRT & didn't want to damage my working board.

The 1490 board had multiple broken components and a circuit hack to the yoke circuit.
Think I'll relegate the board to spare parts; and get going on an LCD conversion.

I found an old post, user Badbaud said the 1490 was made exclusively for IGT machines and doesn’t have jumpers to run in other formats like Bally, Etc.
He also said they are compatible, they use the same tube.
That is good news, you just need to verify that 1492 board works, maybe try it in another known working machine. 1492 boards are plentiful.
