Title: JCM UBA: Where's this plug go?
Post by: DoubleZero on February 06, 2015, 07:38:08 PM
I just installed this UBA BV into a new-to-me Bally's Alpha V20. Everything installed nicely and plugged together with no problems ... except for one leftover plug. It is a six-port connector (3 over 3), but only has three leads inside. Currently, the red light just above the cash can is illuminated, but the BV bezel is not illuminating (with the front door closed) and it's not taking bills. I assume that's because of this plug, but just don't see an obvious place to put it.

I appreciate any suggestions you might have.

That does not look like an alpha harness coming out of the back of the validator.  All 4 of my alphas look like the picture below.  The harness coming out of the validator has 3 plugs on it.  a 5 pin cable for communication, a 2 pin cable for power and a 6 pin dual row cable that does not get used.  The 5 pin and the 2 pin cable connect to another harness that in turn connects to the backplane on the top right labeled com2 validator.

Oh boy. Well the second photo seems to match my setup, but I'll need to climb back in there in the morning to compare your first photo to my machine. Thanks for all your help, Rick. I really do appreciate it!!

Also are you sure the UBA is flashed with the right software and that it is in RS-232 mode?

The unit is from me, and it came directly out of a V20/20 Alpha. Software is IDO03 v1.71 (I believe that's the version anyway, that's from memory).

Then it should work.  The 6 pin white connector is not used on the alphas.  When you did a clear on the machine, did you select JCM as the validator type?  Does the uba cycle during the boot process?

I saw Jim from Ohio Gaming this morn and he confirmed the white plug isn't used. I don't have a clear chip yet, but Coors has one coming to me. The UBA lights up, but doesn't cycle - hoping the clear chip and set-up menu fixes that. Thanks for your help, all. I'll keep you posted!

Yah, it may not come to life until its cleared and selected in the menus. Not like an S2000 where you can get lucky and it picks it up upon boot up. Especially with your game, as you're installing new MPU, software, and UBA at the same time.

That explains it, new MPU, you have to perform a clear, who knows what validator it had before.
