Working on a g23 slant top. Had storage issue/red screen. Would not boot, or allow diag drive to load. Installed new ssd, OS, and game king package. Enabled games, then turned off/on. Red nvram error screen. Replaced pci card, ribbon cable, wiped everything but HD. Re-did setttings enabled games, played 2 games successfully, cash out. Turned power on/off, red nvram screen, settings gone. Not sure what I should try next. Any suggestions would be appreciated. |

Just went through something similar with a BB2 machine that I'd bet is the cause here. If your NVRAM batteries are low, anytime you reboot the machine, the NVRAM will corrupt if it doesn't have enough battery power to maintain the volatile RAM . To me at least, the behavior you're seeing would indicate you have low NVRAM batteries. You can test them for voltage if you have a multimeter. But they're cheap batteries, so I'd just get a 5 pack of batteries so you have extras. You need two CR2450 batteries that go in top of the PCI card in the brainbox, easy to see them. Just be SURE to note the direction they are plugged in (take a pic) so you put new ones in with the same polarity! Disconnect and pull the brainbox out, unless you can slide the top off without removing the whole box. You just need access from the top of the brainbox with the cover off and you'll see the PCI card with the two fairly large coin batteries in holders. Just push them up from the bottom side a little with a plastic anything and you can pull them out, then just slide the new ones in from the top. Simple as long as you make sure they're put back in the exact same direction as the ones you removed. If you do one at a time, then it's easy to mak sure you put the new one in the right way it goes in, then remove/replace the other one. I just take pics for insurance, a simple photo has saved me more than once! Fresh batteries in, put the brainbox back in (or just put the cover back on), clear NVRAM/Safe Storage and boot, do initial setup/enable games. Hopefully that clears it up and NVRAM shouldn't corrupt when you reboot! |
