Title: igt s plus error 43
Post by: Lukea on January 16, 2017, 01:27:44 PM
i have a dollar double diamond that had a buzzing/humming noise coming from the reels, during play and playing the machine it would stop completely, let it sit and it would making noise again.  with the research I've done 43 pertains to reel 3, i moved the 3rd reel to #2 and 2 to 3 same error 43, I'm lost on what to do next new reels or??? also if its new reels will the s2000 reels fit or does someone have reel sets for sale?

Is the humming noise all the time or only when the reels spin
If you determine It is the reels I have Splus reels

if you swaped the reels (2 to 3 and 3 to 2) and the error 43 code still appears then it's probably not the reel.  Make sure there's nothing rubbing against reel 3.

the humming stops during play, came and went at idle,  play and it would stop till it sat like over night then would hum again till i repeated process, then finally went to a 43, was told to try and use the clear chip, haven't tried that yet, and don't see anything rubbing the reel, although right before a total 43 the 1st reel would spin normal 2nd not so much and 3rd would kinda spin back and forth, also heard cleaning the reel optics?? wheres that at...

Now when I turn on the machine it go's to a 41, the reels all turn but after 3rd reel spins all the reels settle in different locations like they jolt or are lazy

I've got my money on the coin rake solenoid causing the humming. Does it stop after inserting or betting 1 coin? As far as the reels jolt or lazy, very different description. How about a short video of that? Try this also. With the door open push the small test button on the lower part of the coin comp. to give it a credit. Then with the door open push spin reels button to see if they are rubbing anything.

Have you tried another main MPU board?
The humming could be coming from a weak filter capacitor on the MPU board.
There is a TIP125 power transistor and a 2N3904 that comprise the reel power driver.
It is a two step system where the reel voltage starts at one voltage and is switched to a different voltage to give the reels a boost.
Providing DC power to this whole circuit is a large filter capacitor and two large diodes connected to AC power.
When the CAP gets weak or one of the diodes fails you are sending pulsing DC voltage to the reel power circuit and the reels will hum with this dirty DC voltage.

If this is a 16mhz machine - they hum, and not because they don't know the words.  :propeller:
A 16mhz machine does not have a volume control on the MPU board. Another tell tale sign is your game chip.
Check out Ricks FAqs (link of the main page) and it will step you through showing the reel and game chip numbers on the screen.

If the error is not moving when you move the reel the 43 error may be a burnt out resistor on the game board. Look at the corner - there is a pak of 5 resistors all together. They represent reels 1 - 5
Most S+ have only 3 reels but the platform was designed to handle 5 reels and there are some Australian versions that did have 5. I have not personally seen one but I have found IGT advertising showing one.
Quite often the first 3 resistors are fried or frying and you can steal number 4 or 5 to replace the fried one.

Hope this helps / Jay

I'm still having problems with the reels, mainly 43 error but sometimes 41, when i move the 3rd reel wires to 2 and 2 to 3 it gives a 43. and on start up now with machine off the reels wont spin like normal, just the 3rd gives like a bump bump and 43 comes up... I'm thinking motherboard???

I know this is an old topic but I found it through search when I was having the same issue and I never found an answer and ended up fixing it myself. So just in case anyone else finds their way here trying to solve this issue, this was my fix:
The optical door sensor wire. That's it. Once I replaced the (red) bad wire on one side (there was no continuity from one end to the other), the error 43 went away and I'm back to normal.
