Title: Contents of a CFast card I found.
Post by: DUGnCV on September 27, 2022, 05:53:52 PM
Hello Group,

I was looking on the net for some answers and I found your site.  It looks like I might have found the place here to get the answers I'm looking for, so here goes.

My friend and I found a CFast card in Central City, CO in one of the casinos.  We are not sure what is on it, and was wondering if anyone out there might be able to tell us by the labeling one the CFast card.

Attached,  are pics of the front and back of the card.  Any assistance you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks a million in advance,

DUGnCV

You are on camera for picking that up..
I have to imagine someone will have some explaining to do on how they lost that?

I hope you haven't inserted it into a Windows PC, as it's a good way to brick the software (even though it's a Linux file system and unreadable to Windows, Windows tends to write a few bytes to the drive anyway which then causes the internal checksum to fail when run on a real machine). Don't know if Windows 10 still does but apparently XP through 7 did.

Why not stick the card in an envelope and mail it to the casino?
Maybe they'll send you a reward?

It is a software tool used by slot techs to clear and setup the slot machine when new or if something goes terribly wrong that requires the slot to be re-initialized.  It is always done under observation by a local Jurisdictional personnel as slot data is highly regulated by the states.

I concur with others here, this is a set chip specifically for use in gen 8 aristocrat games. (I have one of these.) If that goobblygook doesn't mean much it's what allows a game such as Buffalo Gold Collection to be setup or changed.
It's worthless to a random user, other than the value of the Cfast card itself, it contains no game software nor OS. I also concur, check with the casino it was found to try and return it in good faith. Specifically, you'll want their Technical manager, or slots Director, security should be able to take it too. There is no chance they would directly use it after losing custody of it without thoroughly investigating it(exact details would depend on their gaming commission.)
If they flat out don't want it back destruction should be safe. Don't go jumping into trying to sell it without thorough knowledge of your local regs!
