My Mei SC 6602 won't take $100's, old or new, and won't take $10's. Haven't tried $5's. What do I need to do ?

rokgpsman:
Often this is simply because the bill acceptor/bill validator contains software that is older and does not recognize the new-style bills that are in circulation now. Can you check the date of the software in your bill validator, often there is a sticker on it. They can usually be updated with newer software to correct this problem, as long as your BV model is still supported.

Post a photo of your MEI bill acceptor and someone can give advice.

Also, often a slot machine or the bill acceptor can be set so that it will or will not accept certain denomination bills. Some casinos like to disable accepting $100 bills to reduce the chance of getting stuck with counterfeit bills. So your bill acceptor may have a switch setting that disables $100 bill acceptance. Or the slot machine itself could have a setting in the setup/preference menus to enable and disable bill denominations. That could be why the old $100s are not getting accepted.

I found an Operations & Maint Manual for the MEI SC6602, it didn't mention any switch settings for disabling a particular denom of bills. So I would check your slot machine preferences/setup menu to see if it has that feature, many machines do. That may be where the old $100 bills are disabled from getting accepted, because I think the SC6602 should accept them. This manual also gives 2 methods to update the software in the SC6602, beginning on page 6.

You can view and download the Op & Maint Manual here:

(select the "SCxx Series" product and when the next page appears look for the manual, 2nd down the list)

I think the problem of bill acceptance is all in the old software. I need an update.

I learned that my machine is equipped with a JCM Sentry intelligent bezel. In the attached photo, the top row of symbols indicates the currency it is programmed to accept. The orange $1 symbol is the last denomination accepted. The lower symbols are trouble indicators. Though it is hard to tell in the photo, the eye icon is red. This indicates a high number of bill rejections in a short period of time. My attempts to feed a $100 bill.

The mfg date of my machine is 8/05. It is an S2000 Top Dollar machine which has been in storage all these years and never installed on the casino floor. It has never been used. The bill validator software is whatever was installed at time of manufacture.

As you are probably aware, the $1 bill has not changed down thru the years like all of the other paper currency denominations have. So a working bill acceptor will always accept a $1 bill. I'm surprised that it doesn't take an old $100 bill. That's why I thought the $100 denom might be disabled in the slot machine preferences. On machines I'm familiar with from as far back as the 1990's they had the ability to disable acceptance of any particular denomination, from $1 up to $100 bills (exclusive of the $2 bill, I don't think any slot machine accepts them). So a machine and bill acceptor from 2005 should take $100 bills from that era and older.

Since the machine was never installed onto the casino floor perhaps it never got fully setup the way it would have once put into operation, have you tried going thru the setup/preferences process?

But you'll get that all taken care of when you get the MEI's software updated.
