I lived in Las Vegas when they first hit the casinos.   They were way ahead of their time as far as graphics go and in some ways they still haven't been matched.  IGT bought them out and then killed it off.  One way of eliminating the competition I guess.  They certainly are unique machines.

Odyssey's were made in several variation some have toppers others without, some with handles and others without, they even had printers in place of coin hoppers. They even put WBA's in some but very limited production.  Odyssey with toppers should be worth more but putting a $ on that would be up to the individual.

Hey, that's *my* listing!   :propeller:

I have a long history with the Odysseys.  Got hooked on the machine initially because of Top Hat 21 as there was *nothing* like it in the casinos at the time.  The 9x16 monitor was *huge* back then compared to everything else that was still all 4:3 aspect ratio.  And the graphics were fully rendered 3D, unlike most other video poker/slots at the time which were comparatively flat.

As far as maintenance goes, most people shy away from them as they feel they can be prone to problems.  Personally, I've had my main machine running for over 15 years and it still runs great today.  Over that time I've had to replace a battery, an IO board (touch screen stopped working), and just this week, a video card that had failing VRAM.  Original motherboard still works great.

My main machine is white with handle and an ultra rare "Odyssey" topper (most toppers were specific game titles).  I also have an all black unit that never saw the casino floor.  Looks and plays like new with demo software.  The machine I have listed has been in my office for the past few years.  I also have 4 others in various states of functionality at the moment.  I have LOTS of spare parts to say the least including motherboards, touch panels, and complete E-boxes.

I have bought/sold many machines over the years and have helped many others get their machines back up and running.  With LCD conversions and WBA upgrade now happening, it's great to be an Odyssey owner.

If anyone has any questions on Odysseys or needs parts/help, feel free to contact me via my website at https://www.robertwinter.com/slot/odyssey/ (my email is on that main page).  I also have a Odyssey-specific support forum there which complements this sub-forum here on NLG.

robertwinter:
For future reference, the game in question sold off Ebay for *just* under the asking price of $2200.
