3M exiting the Capacitative touchscreen business

(1/2) > >>

rickhunter:
Almost all of our beloved touchscreens are made by 3M Microtouch.  So it is time to stock up on spares.  For the gaming industry it is a matter of adding additional drivers to their OS releases to accommodate the new hardware, but us home users with older platforms will not have that choice.  My suggestion is to keep a couple of touchscreen spares (about $100 per, but better than having a beloved slot that no longer works because the touchscreen was damaged) and a few controllers you can still buy on e-bay for less than $30.  Our best hope is that 3M sells off the tech to a company that will continue to make the products.

It would be nice if the other touch screens would be compatible with the 3m controller avoiding the driver issue.

rickhunter:
Yeah, that's why I mentioned about another company buying up the tech, then they would just continue to make the same product.  That would be the best option for us.

I was lucky in finding an old ELO TS that was the right size for my Game King.
I had to figure the pinouts....wasn't easy but did it last winter.

rickhunter:
Looks like we are all in luck!  A company has acquired the touchscreen assets from 3M and they will continue to manufacture and supply for the industry in general.
