Atronic ticket in/out system for home use?

I have an Atronic Harmony machine that I would like to print tickets and preferably also accept them. Is this possible at home without being connected to a casino network/servers?

The manual mentions a Ithaca 850 printer, however several people on the forum have advised against it. Are these standardized so I can use a more modern one? Would it be possible to both print and accept ticket or only print them?
