IGT AVP SMLD top screen keeps changing colors
« on: February 05, 2023, 07:34:14 PM »
Hello, I have an SMLD machine and am having trouble with the top monitor because it keeps changing colors. I think that means its not getting a signal but the weird thing is that there are times when it does work and shows the game im playing. Hopefully someone can help me figure out how to fix it. I have already tried changing cables and using a video card but still the same problem. The top monitor blinks  solid colors like red and green and others. Thanks.

Have you tried plugging the top cable into a separate desktop monitor, to see if it displays correctly?
If a good is displayed (only size may be off), then the cable, and video card would be okay.

If you get to swapping this far, then you'd want to try plugging a desktop computer into the top monitor to see if the problem is the monitor.
If that doesn't work, then it could be the power supply having a problem because you already know the cable is good.
Last thing to try is swapping the power cables between the topbox and main screen...I believe they're the same but one is longer than the other?

Just giving ideas on swapping stuff to get to the root of the problem.
There's nothing really special about the top monitor....it's just an LCD computer screen like a desktop monitor.

Read this link I've attached to here....the fella had ALL KINDS of cable problems....>>>

My bottom SMLD monitor has one screen inside that is stuck in color test mode.  It simply goes from red to white to blue etc.     A few weeks prior the monitor would work sometimes and other times not at all.   Any ideas?

If it worked then all of a sudden didn't then it might not be a cable issue. I don't have an SMLD, my top monitor is just regular LCD on my G23 machine - I know if I don't have the cable plugged in at all it will show a small message with small RGB squares saying cable disconnected then eventually just go and stay black.

I will say this - these machines are NOTORIOUS for being super touchy with these monitor cables, especially for the bottom touchscreen monitor. I even went to my local casino that had some G23 machines and just tapping on the monitor or the side of the door on some machines would cause the image to lose a certain color then go back again - this is the fault of a bad connection with the cable... which actually made me feel a little better about my issue as if I move my cable while it's plugged in, it throws my bottom monitor colors off - I have it screwed in tight now w no issues as long as I don't bump it where it's plugged into the graphics card in the MPU.

Try jiggling the cable where it's plugged into the brainbox, if you notice things happen like image going in and out then get some DEOXIT, put it on the pins and plug and unplug it from port like 30 times rapidly - see if that fixes it. If not, might be software related as the issue sounds like it's stuck in the image test mode where it cycles colors fullscreen.

It doesn't sound software related....more like an OSD button stuck.
There's four tiny buttons on top of the monitor.
One of them is for the OSD "menu", does it change at all on the display when depressed?
