I agree, kinda a bad design choice, especially when machines are tight to each other, side by side.

When the machine is on and the cash box door is unlocked,  it releases the handle so the tech could pull it out of the way. If someone has jumped the switch on yours, it won't function as designed.

I guess I’ve never tried to pull the box with the power on, I’ll have to give it a try.

I used to have one but don't anymore.  They did make a remover that was sort of box shaped with an open side, and had a lock on it.  You'd slide it over the stacker, and the stacker would be locked in the remover.  Pull it out and it securely held the stacker, no access to the cash.  Someone with a key would be needed to unlock and remove the stacker.
