Air Cylinder Piston Cup Seal, bad

(1/1)

DavidLee:
Well I'm back on the old 88 working on the sticking pull handle situation.
Discovered the cup seal inside the Air Cylinder is completely deteriorated and deposited a nice thick layer onto the piston.
My question, is it possible to use a cup seal for brake cylinders from the auto part store?
The piston measures 1 inch, it seems this would be a common size.

rdaniel:
Actually you do not need to replace the piston seal. Just clean the cylinder, remove the old seal from the piston, lightly oil the piston and cylinder and then put it back together. Should work just fine. Also, make sure that the pin hole at the real of the cylinder is open so that air can pass.

DavidLee:
Got it back together and its working fine, but made the mistake of making more than one adjustment at a time.
Also made a slight adjustment to the main drive shaft/spring, which in turn brought the Roller Stud closer to the factory dimension.
Now the handle works just like new, not sticking or binding.
Also cleaned and lubed the coin counter/step up, now all pays are equal.
Just need to replace a few light bulbs and the machine will be in perfect working order.

Thanks for all the help.
Dave
