Bally Game Maker clear chip problem
« on: April 18, 2007, 05:06:11 PM »

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have been trying to add a couple new games to our machine. I bought a clear chip and installed it in P-10 and set dips 7-8 to on . I restart machine and saferam clear enabled comes on screen. I then use key to reset and it says saferam is being erased, reset dip switches and restart. Then I do the hardware calibration, then software calibration. Then the screen comes up to pick denomination which I do. Then I hit save and hit exit and it says no games are available for play with GAME DISABLED inside a box. I can get no farther than this screen. When do I take out the clear chip? For something that sounded so easy to do it has been a real pain. Can anyone advise what is wrong? Also where can I download a manual for this? Please help before the wife gets crazy that her machine is down. Thanks

So far, so good.  At  this point, TURN THE RESET KEY WITH THE DOOR OPEN.  Select the option, TURN ON/OFF Game.  Now select the games to turn on. hit exit. and you're all set!!!!

one more thing, you remove the clear chip when you remove the processor to reset the dip switches.  I've attached some instructions.

Bob,
are you sure the chips are installed properly with the notch on chip facing notch on socket with the shorter chips installed with the notch 2 pins lower than the socket notch.

What games are you trying to put in?  and what version is your mains?

The games you are trying to install require no special mains.
The only other thing it could be is the jumpers on the board.
make sure the 4 jumpers next to P1, P2, and P3 are set as follows:

w27 - closed
w30 - closed
w31 - closed
w34 - closed

if any of the are open, then it prevents you from adding new games.

He didn't say which mains he has but some of the older ones were on 2 meg chips so they may not be compatible.  However, it sound like he has some bad chips.

Sounds like the game use to work until they put the two games in.  They should try removing the two games to see if one of those EPROMs is loading down the data bus.

It did work before for sure. Does anyone have a picture of the board you could post that shows how the chips go? My brother messed with it before I got to it and he may have pulled chips and put them in wrong. A picture or a schematic would show me exactly the way they go. Thanks for all the replies, this is a great site.
