Title: Power off USB on main board
Post by: aschlottman on March 21, 2017, 05:32:27 PM
Is this possible?  I would like to avoid an extension cord in a WMS machine if possible, and I thought the USB on board could possibly support the current load?

USB ports are capable of pretty good power, but check with Jim at bettorslots if it's one of his TITO units, he should be able to say for sure

Can confirm that this set up seems to be working on my WMS Bluebird 2 machine.

Also, a but of advise for those wanting to run multiple of the Deluxe versions wirelessly.  I tried using the Wireless bridge described in the setup documents along with the switch described in order to create a multi port wireless bridge, however, this did not work.  I ordered a Trendnet device that has 4 ports with bridge capability that will arrive tomorrow, and I will post my results from that.

If you are a bit adventurous or have good knowledge of wireless router, you can use certain inexpensive router models and install DD-WRT firmware on them.  You can then set them up as a wireless bridge.  I've been running this configuration now for over 3 years now without any issues.

While the USB on the MPU can power the Bettor TITO device, the output from the usb ports is only .5 amp @ 5 volts.  It is really meant to power low power devices like flash drives and the like.  The power requirements of the TITO board are a bit above that and you may end up taxing the power from the USB ports.  Why risk damange to your mpu board?  I for one would rather have the "ugly" extension cord, rather than burn out a USB port on my MPU.  I use something similar to the below linked adapter to plug in the wall usb adapter that Jim includes with the Bettor Tito product.  There should be a couple of open plugs under the black cover under the backplane.  That's basically a 120v mains distribution hub.

Can confirm that the TrendNet bridge worked flawlessly!  Setup is a bit of a pain, but worth it in the long run.  I now have full control over all devices connected to it.  The device can be found here:

As for the USB running off the MPU, I will explore the option you have listed here.

The USB ports on the BB1/BB2 MPU will power a Bettor TITO and work just fine
