Looking through a bunch of past posts, I’m not seeing this issue. This upright is the 3rd board that has No sound. The other 2 were in slant tops and I gave up on them. I have replaced the speaker and Volume pots on All 3 with No luck. I can take a board out of working machine and the board works fine. I’ve even replaced the sound chip, with no luck at all. Does anyone know how/what I can do to repair this major problem. I have the knowledge now what to look for.

Usually the large capacitor near the amplifier chip goes bad. It passes audio info onto the speaker.

THANK YOU, I will check it and update this post. I replaced the YAMAHA sound chip and No luck, I will check the capacitor.

Do you happen to know which capacitor # it is?
-
A big one near the amplifier, usually 220uF to 470uF. I don't have a board layout in front of me.

Ok, I finally found my schematic to see which chip was the amplifier. You’re right 470mfd, Thank You for All your assistance.

“ THE CONCLUSION “ After reading and trying, I went old school with the function generator and found ALL 3 boards had bad “S2 dip switches”. Replaced and there’s SOUND. I want to Thank ALL of the input that was offered to me. As they say it never hurts to replace those old capacitor’s. 1 less problem down the road!!!
TAKE CARE ALL AT NLG, YOUR’RE FANTASTIC PEOPLE.
