Title: BillVal Comm Error
Post by: igt66 on August 07, 2015, 10:13:34 AM
I have a WMS BB1 and getting BillVal Comm Errors when I change software.
When I first got the machine, I was able to change games from John Wayne to Lucky Meerkats and the bill validator workedd fine.
Now when I change games, the game starts just fine but the bill validator will not accept bills and the green lights are off.
If I push the diagnostics button, it displays a BillVal Comm error.
I have tried changing every setting that I know but I cannot get the bill validator to work.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Is it an MEI validator?  Did you make sure to select the right type of validator in the setup screen?

I will have to check tonight if it is an MEI. I have tried both settings in the configuration but they both have display BillVal Comm Error.

Thanks for helping,
Steve

if it is yellow, then it's an MEI.  Post pictures and you will have an immediate answer.

Shove the cash in box well. If it worked before it should work now.  These can be prone to the heads quirking and esp. the interface card.  The head pops rite out.  With game off clean the gold contacts with a eraser as well as the card in the back, just pulls out with can out otherwise you will mess up the toggle tang hanging.

Yeah, I'm with Rick on this one.  If it worked before the software change and the can wasn't touched, I suspect the wrong validator option is selected in the menu.  If you did mess with the hardware, Barry's steps would be worth checking too.

Thanks,
Jason

As a note, I have had some that would work for a while and then throw same error, Without doing anything to the game.  It was the surface mounts in the head heating up.  Cool off, works again.  I have seen it all with the mei's but I do like them. Does not quite sound like this members problem but may be.

You nailed it. I went ahead and removed the cash box and gave the contacts a good cleaning.
Powered on the machine and it is now working great with no configuration changes.
Thanks everybody for your help!

I am currently having this issues in a BB2.

Mine might be different...

Mine will work great, then stops taking anything. I take the head off and put it back on. Then the MEI starts cycling and cycling. I have to put the head back off and on again and I might get lucky. Swapped cash cans... no luck. Swapped heads... no luck. Is it the little board that slides out the issue or something else down the line?

Errors:

Bill Val Com Error

sometimes:

Bill Val Error In/out... (something like that)

The interface board (the board that slides out) is the only thing left to try other than the backplane.  I would try the interface board first, if not, then the backplane.

So I moved the interface board to my alpha to see if it followed and far both machines are working perfectly. Weird.
