S+ 61-1 Haywire Deluxe Error
« on: November 29, 2021, 11:13:54 AM »
Hello All

This is my first post on this site. I have been reading everything I can find and now going to ask for help from you all. I will give you the short version of whats going on.

My boss passed away and I have aquired 3 IGT games that were his.  2 of the are S2000 and the 3rd is the good ol Haywire Deluxe S+ machine.
So I replaced all the batteries and after reading a bunch of how tos on this site- they were all up and working. So I was wanting to get the bill valadator
working on the S+ Haywire and read plenty (so I thought) about it. Ordered the Set 15 and Clear chips. I did the Set 15 per instructions and ended up
with the 61-1. Tried the clear also and same result. Well, came back here to read more. So after looking more at the machine, the optics are gone and
a cherry swith is wired in with them. The belly switch is also wired together and I finally found that the cherry switch in the back of the cash box housing
has no wires plugged into it nor are they hanging around anywhere. So here is the questions.

Does the switch in the cash box housing have to be working to clear a 61-1 ?   (even if it is disabled in the settings)
Where do the wires come from or go that plug into the cash box housing switch ?
Can I just order optics and possibly fix the problem ?
How about the belly door- do I need to hook it back up properly to clear the 61-1 ?

I can get pictures of what might need to be shown.

I appreciate all the help I can get-
Thanks Mike

Does this unit have a bill validator ? if not then I suspect this might be an S vs an S+
The reason I say this is that with a S+ you can't easily bypass your optics with a Cherry switch.
The optics put out a series of security pulses the intention is to stop cheating by either the use of a light pen or a shunt.
You can buy optics - they are a simple plug in molex. Not expensive.

After a clear you would normally get a 61, for which you hold in the white test button - you hear a ding, you get a 61-1... close the door, turn the jackpot reset key.
The reels spin etc and your good to go.... is the jackpot reset key wired up ? if so then I suspect that your not seeing the door as being closed

On the S+ the cashbox door has to be closed. Mine has no locks and I use a small piece of electrical tape to hold it closed.

Pictures will help - if you take the pics with your cell phone you are probably best to email them to yourself, choosing the option for small and then post them to NLG.
We are looking for Inside the machine and specifically the MPU board if you have it removed.

Yes- it does have a bill validator and I did the test on it (where u set the dip switches to test it) to see if it would except a bill and it did take the bill. Of course that was before and the reason I used the SET 15 chip. I wanted to get the validator to work normally but it showed a 9-0 rather than 9-1. (I think thats right)

I did get the 61 and then the ding and 61-1 but no further. Im sure the key works because if I cycle it with just the 61 it brings up different settings. Is the "pulse" the actual optics put out is whats needed when a clear it done ? I have ordered a set of optics. Mine is already set up with a cherry switch.

My cash box door wires are wired together. But the switch in the back of the housing for the cash box has no wires to it.

I will take some pictures tomorrow and send them.

I really appreciate the help.
Mike

Gonna attempt a picture of the board. Lets see if this works.
I will resize more if this works.

I think your on the right path with the optics.

Here is a couple more.
What is the black box circled in the picture - it has no wires going to it ?
The arrows show the optic wires wired up to the cherry switch.
The wire circled in my hand is what I believe to be the cash box door sensor wired together.
The square shows the switch in the back of the cash box housing. Wouldn't that have to be wired in to make the validator work properly ?

The black plastic box was just an interface between the machine and bonus modules up in the topbox for special games or back to the casino's computers.

Not needed for a DD Haywire game.

You need to get both of your door optics working, the emitter opto and the receiver opto to get past 61-1.

Well, that will be awesome if its just the door optics. I do have them on order. I would have never messed with trying to get the validator to work if I knew this because it was working on tokens.

Everything we read indicates that it doesn't think the door is closed, this has nothing to do with the validator. A set, or a clear would not change the status of the door.
If it was taking tokens then the door had to be sensing as shut and something has changed.

Is the door on the bill collection box shut ?

Yes it was excepting tokens. I bought a set and clear chip set because the validator was showing it wasnt enabled. I placed the set chip in and did the procedure. 61-1 error came up after tried to reboot game.
I had touched nothing other than the board.

The wires that use to go to the cash box are the ones in the picture im holding and they are wired together.

Well Crap

I received the door optics that I ordered and installed them. Still not working. I even took both optics off the machine and help them facing each other. Not quite sure were to go from here. I have nine volts coming to the optics on both sides. Stumps me that it was taking coins, and all I did was use the set chip to activate bill validator and bang- not working.

Can you guys help me with were to go from here ?

The emitter and receiver need to be hooked up on the proper sides - Ie they can't be reversed (emitter on the door, receiver on the cabinet) also they are diodes so they need to also be the right polarity.
Using a cell phone camera are you getting light emitted ? from the door side optic ? - you can't see it with the naked eye but a digital camera catches it pulsing.

Have you done a self test to see if the door closed is detected...
I have attached a PSR ....

Group 3 – Miscellaneous Tests & Configurations
To change the option setting or to increment the digit value, press the Spin Reels button.  To move through tests, turn the jackpot reset key.  To move to the next self test page, press the self test button.  In option pages, turn the jackpot reset key to change the blinking digit position.  Specific instructions are provided where applicable.

Here's the pertinent pages from the S+ wiring diagram that covers the optics.  Like Jay said you have to get them hooked up correctly or they will not work.  It looks like someone in the past bypassed the optics, now you'll have to return the wiring to its original condition to get it working with them again.  The drawing shows you everything you need to know to do that. The emitter and receiver have different color wires.  The drawing has the wiring color codes for them so you can tell which is which.  Hope it helps.

Well Good News

So I decided to see if my door optics I ordered were even working by taking the ones off of the s2000 super spin 7 machine. I could have done this first but my luck I would have burned up or broke the ones on the SS 7. So I put the ones I ordered on the 7 machine and they worked. So I put them back on the S+ and nothing. So I put the ones from the SS 7 on the S+ and bingo- the 61-1 cleared right off.

SO- Im not sure why one set works fine on both machines and the other set only on one machine- but whatever.    So I really want to thank you guys for the quick help you gave me.

I would love to do what I originally set out to do and that was to get the bill validator working. It does do the manual test just fine, but does anyone have a S+ and can take a picture of where the wires go after the main cherry switch that is in the back of the cash box housing ?   Or should I start a new post because its a new issue ?

Thank you again

That doesn't make sense.  Maybe you had emitter and receiver backwards?  I guess as long as it's working why ask why?

The cherry switch on the back of the cash can is used by the casino's player tracking/security system.  It alerts casino security if the cash can is removed from the machine.  Not needed or used for home use.

Well - with that said- maybe now that I know the optics will reset a 61-1 and the cash box rear switch doesnt matter- I may try to activate the bill validator again.  It would be nice to be able to put credits on it that way.
