Title: Williams Hyperball Problems
Post by: crayw on August 21, 2022, 04:06:13 PM
I have a Williams system 7 hyperball i am have problems with.

Here is the bad.
The escalator and shooting coil runs all the time.
The 8x8 lamp matrix is not lighting row 7 and all other lights are very bright and do not strobe.
The 8x4 lamp matrix is not lighting row 11 and all other lights are very bright and do not strobe.
General illumination on the score board do not light.
Switches 22, 24, 26, 27 and 28 are showing stuck in diagnostics. These are opto switches.
Resistors and transistors on the control board get pretty hot. I only leave it on a couple of minutes at a time because of this.

Here is the good.
The game boots with no errors.
All displays work except the 1's in player 2.
It accepts coins and will play one or two players and will score points and give a game over.
I have not found anything shorted on the playfield.

If anyone can help me find a good board repair service or give me some idea of the depth of my problem I would appreciate it.

Sounds like a surge down the +5 line (or voltage got sent to the switch matrix) and fried a bunch of stuff. 6821 PIA's, 74xx gates, etc.

If no acid damage, send it off to Eldorado.  Steve's son has been running the show now for a few years.  Dealt with him many times with no problems.
