Title: Printer install questions for BB2
Post by: RenoBabyBoomer on November 17, 2022, 05:42:07 PM
My BB2 had the printer removed before I bought it, but the harnesses were possibly left in place. I bought a Gen2 RS232 WMS printer and now it's time for the install. These are the current conditions:

-Harness P1 is plugged into the J5 Printer port on the backplane. The end of that harness is labeled P3 with an empty 7x2 female plug.
-There is a dangling P4 harness with (I guess a jurisdiction doo-hickey) attached A-012938-03-00, and it has an empty 7x2 male plug.
-There is a SPN harness with an empty 4x2 female connector.
I don't see any other disconnected harnesses in the belly.

-The printer has a 7x2 male connector.
-2x2 male connector with black/red/green wires.
-3x male connector with green/green wires.
-A 2x2 male connector is embedded on top of the printer.

The printer dip switches are currently: 1-off, 2-on, 3/4/5/6 are off.

My noobie logic says that I should plug the printer male 7x2 into the P3 female 7x2. Could it be that simple? That still leaves the 2 other connectors and I don't see where they go. I would guess that the 2x2 is power related because of the black/red/green wires, but I don't see any empty ports on the power supply.

Jurisdiction doohickey should have a harness leaving it and going to the printer

The "jurisdiction doohickey" is a power loss device (going off my memory of the schematic)

I'm making progress, I have plugged the cables as suggested and plugged the other end of the printer harness into the printer's connector.  I cleared the machine, installed a game and OS cards and used the process as directed in the BettorSlots video for setting up a game with a printer but without a TITO board. At the conclusion of the game config sequence, on the Pending Status screen there is a Printer Comm Error warning.

On the printer, there are 4 lights as follows: Ready - Green, Paper - unlit, Open - Amber, Fault - unlit.  I opened the flip up portion of the printer then secured it properly. It had not been open.

I used the following values on the Device Config screen: Printer - Netplex, Coin Acceptor - No comparator, Hopper - No Hopper, Bill Validator - Mars, Button Panel - Standard.

For the Host Setup screen: AFT - Disabled, Legacy Bonusing - SAS Primary, Machine Control - SAS Primary, SSG Meter Collection - SAS Primary, Voucher In/Coupon - Off, Voucher Out - SAS Primary.

On the Serial Comm Setup screen: Host Comm I - SAS Primary, Host Com II - None, Progressive type - None

Any ideas are welcome!   :thank_you:

As if turns out, the doo-hickey is a Bluebird Slot Machine Printer Harness A-012938-03-00 used to extend wiring to the printer. I'm adding the info for the next member that can't figure out the difference between a doo-hickey and a wiring harness.  :scratch-head_2:

I was able to install the printer from my other BB2 and it works fine, so it appears that the problem is with the Gen2 I was trying to install and not the wiring harness or game set-up.

I'm going to have a little drink now. My thanks to those who helped.  :thank_you:
