Think BB1. Never worked on these. Now to figure out what's involved to change battery.

I think "needs battery" is the Craigslist equivalent of "Ran when parked" for vehicles.

He replaced 2 batteries and can't get it to clear. Does BB1 have 2 or 3 batteries?
I did not have eye on machine

MBR read failed means there's a problem with either the clear or OS card (whichever he is trying to boot with).  You may also want to check the pins inside the cf socket to make sure none are bent or broken.
