Title: S2000 Speaker or Amp Problem?
Post by: TNTTRX on June 29, 2022, 11:49:04 AM
Have a new to me Barcrest S2000.  Got the machine up and running just fine, but noticed that the left speaker wasn't working at all.  I opened up the top glass and noticed it was disconnected and the wire was kind of tucked away.  Easy fix I thought, so I plugged it in and turned the machine on again and it gave a loud, constant, static/white noise and the sounds wouldn't work at all.  I have an extra set of speakers so I hooked up one temporarily to see if the speaker itself was bad, and sure enough it worked just fine.  I swapped out the new one with the bad one, and the machine worked fine all yesterday with stereo sound.  Turned it on this morning and it worked fine for a few hours then I came back into the room and it was giving off a pretty good buzzzzz through the speakers and no game sounds were working.  Disconnect the new left speaker, and the right speaker is working just fine, no buzz.

Do I replace the little amp board that's in the top box?  Or something else to look for first?

It's a 504B main board.

The amp board is 131-004-00 --- most of the ones I see for sale have the same layout but are 131-003-02 or 131-003-04.  Does that matter?

Looks like you bought someone else's problems...lol

There's several topics in the IGT S2000 section of NLG I'm sure that will help ya.
If you can't find anything...just punch in the word "buzzing" in the S2000 search box...you probably get a few hits.

Chances are, something blew out on the left channel of the amp unit.
If you can, place a "Want-To-Buy" ad in the Classifieds section of NLG.
I'm sure someone will have one for ya.

The "02" or "04" is just the year of when the amp units were made...no biggie....all are pretty much "swapable".

Haha, well it’s just my own OCD about making all the machines in my collection perfect and I’ve only seen 1 of these Barcrests in the wild so I’m happy to have it, even if it’s “mono” :)

The amp boards are $15 from Spin and the seller offered to cover it so I’ll start there, thanks for the info on the -02 -04 etc, that makes sense!
