Post a photo of your machine with the door open so we can see the validator.  Some validators can be updated to accept most of the new currency, but some cannot.

Greetings from England, UK

First of all , nice classic machine if its the one i am thinking it is, I am from the UK so i am unsure if the USA changed to polymer notes but i know that the older note validators i used could not be updated, such as the earlier model of NV10, which they then released the later NV10 USB, coin mechs had been a little easier.
All this could be totally irrelevant due to my experiences being with more modern machines/tech which it it is the case then still get to say nice machine and create my first post here   :hail:

You can use any photo editing software to reduce the dimensions of your image which will reduce the file size.

Alternately you can upload them to https://postimages.org/ and copy the "Hotlink for forums" code generated for each image and paste it into a reply here.

Is there a switch / test switch anywhere inside the cabinet ? , might be hidden pretty well somewhere ,

Also any loose connectors , look inside them and see if any signs of ever being pushed into another, any little scratches , its not uncommon for their to be extra free connectors and usually they're present in case of future upgrades or extra's available at the time

I may be wrong on how one of this age would work , but i assume it has a sensor that detects the note being inserted which would cause any rollers to spin, if correct then it could be that needing a good clean.
When the machine is powered on does the note mech make any noise ?

The board in question is for a player tracking interface that was used when the machine was part of the casino's network.  They are worthless for home use, you can remove it, or leave it there, it's not doing anything anyway.  The orange wire is usually attached to a screw that pokes inside the coin bowl on the hopper.  It is used to let the system know if the hopper is full.  There should be a screw that has the head outside the bowl and the rest is inside the coin bowl.  That orange wire is supposed to be attached to that screw.  When the coin level gets high enough so it touches the screw, it indicates a hopper full condition.  If the connector is loose and it shorts with the cabinet, your machine will think the hopper is full, and any coin that is supposed to go into the hopper will get directed to the drop door where the casino had a bag that used to collect these coins.

The dollar bill is the most accepted. Using an older style bill would be recommended.
The DBV 145 is practically the oldest validators used in these. So older money will be more accepted than the new money.

The sticker you saw was the version of the firmware on the bill validator. As bills evolved they (JCM - the makers of the DBV)  had to update the firmware.

There were also updates of the firmware to avoid cheating. One common scam was to take a $5 bill and pencil in certain spots to make the 145 think it was a $50 bill.

When this became prevalent many casinos disabled the dip switch that allowed acceptance of the $50. Most casinos told JQ-Public that $50's were unlucky and this myth continues to this day.

To that point here is an older thread that you can follow on how to check the dip switches on the 145.
JCM DBV-145 what are the dip switch settings? (newlifegames.com) (http://newlifegames.com/nlg/index.php?topic=9006.0)

You mentioned all the noise from the validator when the machine powers on. This noise will occur regardless if the validator is enabled or not.
To enable the bill validator you need a SET chip. You remove the game chip, insert the set chip, follow the onscreen instructions and then put the game chip back.
If your buying a SET chip I recommend you buy a Clear chip as well as this takes your machine back to factory defaults.
You can check out RICKs FAQs on the bottom right of the home page, for the S+ instructions on how to use the SET chip.
The PE+ and the S+ (slot) are based on the same architecture and work the same way.
The advantage with the PE+ is you have an onscreen menu vs reading winner paid windows for codes.
It looks like the validator is enabled (lit up) but without a set chip I can't confirm that it is.

Is the bill being pulled in an rejected or not being pulled in at all ?? if its not pulling in at all this leans towards the validator NOT being enabled.

There is also the possibility that the validator has firmware for another country - ie Canada.

Another trick for posting pic's is to take them with your smart phone then email them to yourself - you will get prompted with the option to reduce size. Post the smaller pics.

Fixed font issue. -knagl

You don’t want to use a clear chip unless you need to.
It’s a rare need - ie the setup screen won’t go back to normal game play.

If you use the clear chip then you will for sure need to use the SET chip.

Jay,

That's fascinating about the $50 bills. I've frequently heard that "bad luck" thing with casinos, but had no idea of the backstory.

So explanation as best as I can say to what fixed the problem with just getting 2 screens on the PE+ slant machine when pressing the white self test button.

The black wire with the blue stripe that is supposed to be used as a jumper if credit switches not used...

The wire in question was connected to the NC tab on the CHANGE Switch. We disconnected that wire and the self test switch button worked as it should. He was able to get to all the test screens. Problem fixed.

My PE+ slant did not have that wire connected to the CHANGE switch or the DEAL/DRAW switch for that matter. We did not check to see where the other end of it was or was not connected on his machine. Don't really care at this point as the machine is working almost 100%. He just needs to get the BV working.
