Post by: chris1945 on December 01, 2016, 02:16:18 PM
With 1000 credits showing on my Bally v 5500 Draw Poker machine, it will pay out on winning hand automatic. Then show Machine Paid 10, Player paid 1. Paying out one or two many quarters, then shows call attendant, at this time door must be opened and re-closed. if credits are below 1000 coins. correct amount of coins drop and another hand can be played with no extra coins dropped.

It is likely your hopper brake.

On the IGT (what I know) the hopper runs and as coins pass through the optics they are counted. When the appropriate number pass the optics, motor is turned off and the hopper brake is engaged.
The motor still has momentum when the power is taken away, thus the need for the hopper brake.

Without the hopper brake you get a few extra coins passing through - since they are also passing through the optic the machine registers this as an error / tilt / coin out malfunction.

The hopper brake is pretty simple - it is held in place by a small spring and when power is engaged it is pushed out with a solenoid. The most likely cause is that the spring broke or fell off.
I have fixed more than one hopper by using the spring from an old ball point pen.

Pull out the hopper and take a look at the back you will probably find a that there is a metal pivot of some kind - when the arm is out you can move the inside of the hopper - when its pushed in you can't.
Just need to get a new spring in place.

Thank you will check that out and see if it fixes the problem. Will check back after I located Hopper Brake spring.
