What is the difference between-Alpha-Alpha 2-Alpha Pro?
Thanks Ford
-
Basically 2 generations. The Alpha 2 Pro series has a more modern cpu and graphics.
Alpha, and Alpha 2 Pro.
Alpha S9E is what you are seeing everybody sell now. Mechanical buttons, Mech Reels or 20" LCD (V20) and a 20 inch LCD top.
Alpha V32. Huge 32" LCD with mechanical buttons for player panel.
Alpha 2 Pro is what is new in casinos. Touchscreen lcd player panel instead of buttons, Mech Reels or 22" LCd and a 22" LCD top.
Alpha 2 Pro Curve. Same as above, but instead of Mech Reels, it has a curved LCD that emulates mechanical reels.
Alpha 2 Pro Wave. HUGE Curved 40" LCD.
Alpha 2 PRO V32. Huge 32" LCD with touchscreen LCD Player Panel instead of buttons.

Rick, And Ford this is a easy way of putting it in somewhat latent terms. Can you run a Alpha 2 setup in a alpha 1 cab. given the proper equip.--Yes,Yes and yes. Pricey though but worth it---The games are just phenonimal. Let's play some mikey jacson, nascar, grease, titanic, etc.!. Fun stuff.
-
What do I need other than a 1GB MPU & 2 GB ram?
-
1 gig box bumped will only run alpha 1 stuff and some early alpha 2 tittles such as mustang etc. Alpha 2 is running 4-gig minimum.
-
Thanks. Will be some time before I get 4 GB mpu.
Since I got you on here, another question. On Alpha, what do I look for when white button for setup will not take me into setup. Tried 3 different MPU & same thing.
-
Yes, They go for 750-to 1k -sweet talk or know someone perhaps a bit less, then the backplane (they are diff). then the I-deck -required for many games. then the sound board mod. Then the 32 inch top monitor-touch, then then then. It is tough. But many that have fat pockets are doing this. And I mean mostly vendors and a few home users that have gotten lucky. Not to mention any install, clear or game cf's. The cards do not even stay in the box when loaded, Will not work with them in it. Modern tech. Gotta luv it.
-
Thank, I'll keep using them the same old way .

Best is to wait on Alpha 2's and forget about the converting an old machine! Why? The lighting package on Alpha 2's are amazing, the cabinets (I still think) and the best looking cabinets in the business, the Ideck, the super candle and the video topper.
Very few REAL Alpha 2 titles WILL work on a 1gig board. I just picked up Viking Empire which was released in 2013! When loading this game it even has the Alpha 2 hourglass and runs really smooth! (At least compared to WMS BB2 games on BB1)... Also saw SIREN OF THE SEA on ebay last week which will run on an Alpha 1 MPU, which is also a newer title. I am also running all these games on an old M9000 with a 4x3 19" screen.
Just upgrade your Alphas all to 1gig MPUs... even for your old titles... Boots up really fast.
As for the 2GB of memory, my test have showed 0!!!!!!! improvement. I have to assume that the reason for the 2GB of ram would be needed if a game is on a 2GB game card? Which is really rare for an Alpha 1.
-
Thanks. Yep the 1 Gig is faster then others. Guess I'll look for more 1 Gig @ reasonable price.
-
You can get an Alpha 1gig board between $250-$300 fully loaded with a video card (dual screen). To me that is very reasonable considering that you can run current games on it unlike BB2 MPUs which the vendors love to price gouge (like we are making money off these machines) at $1200 or more.
My M9000 has this setup and I can run Fireball and V32 games with a PC monitor I mounted in the top box. The monitor sticks out so I can rotate the screen vertical or horizontal depending on the game. Since its NOT touchscreen yet, I have a Y splitter vga cable for V32 games so I can use the 19in touch screen to spin the wheel on Cash Spin...Yes the botton screen is sideways but it works without having a true V32...lol
If you are like me and want to run the latest and greatest then its worth it. If you are more into the older games, then its a 50/50 decision...games load faster but is it really worth it. You have to ask yourself that. To me I hate booting up a step and hear the reels spin for 8 minutes and another 1-2 minutes for the Party Spin wheel to spin.

Coolwave/charles, Good post. It shows that you mis-match and experiment to make games work. Like it. I knew this and you even stated it a while back in other posts-I have to give you a :1: for a good post. This is the same thing that is happening with the alpha-2 platform with good results. The hardware is somewhat pricey but damn fun games to play.

Thanks Sizz! If you also notice, I try to post my findings and share it with the other members. The beauty about owning a bally Alpha is there is SO much you can do with them, backward compat, one OS for the entire library (except true Alpha 2 titles), smooth gameplay for even the newer titles... still haven't seen WMS do that! Have you seen some of the NXT 3 blade cabinet celebrations? The gems that fly across the screen on a big win are so choppy it looks like they are just floating... yikes!
Out of the 30+ games I own, only 3 of them don't work. GameMaker HD (need a button card), Gauchos Gold (requires a true Alpha 2), and Reel Winners (doesn't work with the Ultimate Spin series wheels). That is not a bad ratio considering everyone told me NO.. you need an Alpha 2...lol
-
Some of your words in last post is why I TO prefer the Bally Alpha games on both platforms. Nothing wrong with the wms bb's games, I just like the alpha's better for me. For many diff. reasons.

Got a 1 GB game running in an old Alpha. Don't have proper strips, but it works.

LOVE IT Slots4u! I got Cherry Red running on my machine but sadly no reel strips either. Funny thing... I have GOLD RUSH strips and no software :(
-
You & I are both looking for Gold Rush software.

Slots-4-U...
To answer your "white Button" question.... Main Door switch "M", must be OPEN for the white menu switch to be active on the Alpha1 engine. On Alpha2 machines, it's referred to as the "Security Door".
Hope this helps....
