Title: 1st alpha, doesn't boot
Post by: Papacon78 on October 06, 2021, 01:34:57 PM
Recently picked up a black gold wild 5 quick hit. It goes through boot up, but ends with an error. I'm assuming it's a battery(s) but I don't know where to go from there. I attached a pic of the error section of the screen, whole screen pic was too big.

It's the battery on the cpu, should Cr2477n battery . You will have to clear and set up after the battery change

Battery depends on the mpu type, most S900's are a CR2032.  Take a photo of the mpu so you can see where all the cables go. Unplug all the cables and pull the mpu out of the machine to change battery.  Put everything back, clear the game and setup again.  If you don't have a clear, need to know your bios/OS so we can tell what clear you will need.

Thanks guys, I'll be back to look at it tomorrow. It's at a friend's house, he had the free space. Where would I find the numbers you're looking for?

(2) CR2032 on a 300/400 mhz MPU, CR2477N on a 1ghz MPU. There's also a CR2032 on the backplane. Replace it too.
OS number should be on the card itself. BIOS chip should be labeled too. I would not worry too much about the BIOS chip because it should be correct for your OS or you would not have gotten as far as you did. If you still can not ID what you have, post pics.

The bios chip is the only chip that is on a socket (32 pin or 40 pin depending on mpu type).  The OS is the card that sits on the top slot.  I usually have pictures taken of both items as sometimes one or the other is mislabeled.  You will need to pull the mpu out anyway to replace the batteries, so you could have a look at it when you do.

Been hung up with work. Hope to get to it tomorrow. Can someone explain in layman's terms where the os and bios numbers are located? I'll post pics as soon as I get into it. I know I have to drill out the locks on the mid and top. That's 1st order of business. Any danger in going full depth on the drill bits?

The Compact Flash card in the top slot is the OS card.  There is a label on it, the OS version stars with AVOS and then a series of numbers.  The bios chip is inside the MPU.  It is the bigger chip that is on a socket, probably a 32pin eeprom.  There's a label on it with the bios version shown.

AVOS00000336-09

32 pin prom next to 2 batteries says: AVBBP26S300M-03

Replaced the 2 batteries, where's the 3rd?

Thanks to RB for sourcing the clear card. Trying to set up, followed bettors video. I still get validation not, machine control not selected, printer paper low, and setup menu entered. I've tried 3 times so far and still have the same issues. What am I missing. If I had hair I'd be pulling it out
