I went to visit a friend yesterday and we ended up wandering through an Indian casino. This is a new place, not open for very long. While checking out all the new machines, I saw a S2000 with a VFD that was almost white in color. All the others were the normal blue color of some shade, but one was almost pure white. It was neither dim nor extra bright.
Any idea why this one was an off color?

Hmmm, I've seen pink windows, but can't recall seeing a clear. Since its just the glass color that gives the blue (or pink) appreance, not really the VFD, I guess it's possible the blue was removed? Maybe it was damaged or scratched and someone peeled it off? I've never tried, but I'm guessing its possible?

I've seen a few white VFD's in S2000's before. Not many though, but a few.
-
I have two with white VFD's, did not know they were that uncommon.

Hmm...is the blue glass missing from the VFD? :scratch-head_2: Just wondering...

I just figured it out. On S2000 long reel glasses, most have a tinting that is in the reel windows. I hate that tinting, and like it to be crystal clear, like an old S-Plus reel glass. Out of this frustration, I had Sunkist Graphics make me up a handful of non-tinted reel window glass. looks great, shows off the minty reel strips better, LOL.
It just so happens that my white displays happen to be with this reel glass, so I guess that explains that, they did not tint that window where the display is. I do like the look, BTW.

Bunker here are your pictures.
I have 4 machines with long VFD displays of the newer type. (the ones that don't have a daughter driver card).
Two are Blue and two are white.
The first attachment is a blue one for comparison the last three attachments are from the white ones.

Wow! Big difference between the two huh? :dancing_2:
I'm used to the blue tinted ones...thanks for posting for others to see!

The white ones are much brighter, I first noticed this when I was working on the machines in my open garage before I moved them in the house. I thought the VFD was not working on the blue machines because the sunlight was too bright for them and washed the lettering out. It wasn't until I got them in my house that I could see the two VFDs were different.
And welcome back Bunker glad your here.

They made a few different colors, it's all about the tinting on the reel glass. I had one that was a red color once

Here are some shots. One that has red tint on glass has white - blue has blue.
