Title: Single Dynamic Button Showing Weird Screen
Post by: Matt411 on October 30, 2023, 11:22:41 PM
Got a g23 and randomly the middle bottom button has been displaying this and flashing between the 2 backgrounds. I did a fresh install of everything and it's still doing it - I notice on some games it will display, but be kind of messed up, then as I play it goes wonky. Just randomly started happening, havent changed or moved anything. Checked wires they all seem connected.

So is this something that's fixed in the software or the hardware? Like can something be configured in the operator menu w e-key or diagnostic key that relates to the buttons?

It's a hardware problem.  I'd reseat the connector on the button first.  Then if that doesn't correct it, swap two buttons around and see if the problem follows the button (button issue) or stays with the button position (probably ribbon cable issue).

I had a dynamic button showing those codes - swapped the ribbon cable to fix it.
On another button deck from a different machine, I ending up replacing with a re-furbished button.
Hopefully yours is just a loose ribbon cable connector female pin.
Please make sure the power is OFF before connecting or re-connecting ribbon cables & buttons.

Often disconnecting and reconnecting the ribbon cable solves it.  As the other member said, swap the button's location with another to see if the issue is the cable or the button.

If the issue moves with the button, it's the button.
If the issue stays in same spot, it's the cable.
If the issues goes away, cable just needed to be re-seated. (not uncommon)

Thanks everyone - unplugging and plugging back in fixed it!

I've never messed with the buttons before so wasn't sure how they even plugged in but figured it out. Looks like the ribbon cable is all one long cable tho?

I have 2 of my far left buttons that never turned on, I've seen other people that bought from Chris @ slots unlimited have the same thing with their g23, not sure if they're just disabled or what but if one of my other buttons went bad wondering if they would swap and work. It's no big deal as those buttons are always the repeat bet / bet one credit so I just labeled em. I was just curious cause I know these things are expensive to replace!

There are a set of dips on bottom of button deck.  What are yours set to?  NEVER mess with dynamic buttons with machine turned on!!!

Glad it's working now  :applause:

Yes, that ribbon cable is one long piece so if you damage it somehow you have to replace the whole thing.

Like Mark said, on the botton side of the button deck is an interface board with 6 dip switches on it.  For a 14 button deck like yours 1 and 2 should be on, and the remainder off.  I think they're probably set correctly since your button led edge lighting for those buttons is working.  The button displays have probably dimmed out and they put them down on that end because they're usually repetitive of the right side bottons if they're used at all by the game.  Yes, replacements are pricey!
