Title: 044 add-on board to play 3902 games - no sound
Post by: teamclark4 on March 02, 2015, 06:20:38 PM
Banging my head on this one..  :banghead:

I've got more then one 044 MPU main boards. I can put on an 044 flash board game, sounds work great.

I have multiple 3902 games that i can load into my 3902 MPU igame and they play perfect.

I have an 044 add-on board to play the 3902 games. Load one of the working games, rekey, everything is looking great. Can put money in and play the game. But no sound. No sound when i was configuring it (user input sounds). Verified sound options adequate level. Hit the "test" button in the sound setup screen and nothing.

So i figured my add-on board had a sound issue/glitch. So i bought another add-on board.

Got the board today, rekeyed expecting sound. Same thing, no sound.   :hissyfit:

So it's not the add-on board, not the game simms. Down to the 044 MPU.

Something i'm missing ?  Are some 044 MPU's compatible with that add-on board and some not ?

Thanks...

Make sure your using US version Software.
Legacy daughter board you will only be able to run US versions of 3902 software.

Your DSPL chip may be bad,
without it no sound.

Thanks for the replies guys... I have multiple 3902 games, all usa; no sound on any if using the 044 add-on board. I have had 2 different 044 MPU's that play the 044 games fine. But no sound on the 3902 games with add-on boards.

Could your 044 mpu be international?

A user posted about the DSPL chip.  It is a chip in the legacy adapter that should be there, in addition to the GME and base roms.  Do you have that on your legacy board?

The empty socket in the upper left corner of the pic is the DSP Boot socket.

Ok, seems like that chip needs to go in the "DSP BOOT - U32" slot.. Assuming that's a universal chip and not specific to any 3902 game ?

On the same page now..  :applause:

Thanks John, Rickhunter, Bryan, Jeremy for taking the time to respond.  I have a box of s2000 chips buried somewhere, i'll try to track it down and try the DSP chip.. At least i can do less of this:
