Remove the Program EPROM, insert the Clear EPROM, power up the machine, Press the self test button and that should do it.

What are you wanting to do?  I've never had to clear one before.

Thanks for your reply.
I did a ram clear for a friend after replacing the battery. When I powered it up, as I remember, it came up CMOS, call attendant. I don't think I pressed the test button first though. Maybe that was my problem.
Eventually, after 3 ram clears, somehow I must have done something right, as I finally got the game to play. The game finally came up after pressing the deal and the other button near it.
I just wanted to clarify the proper procedure for the next time that I have to do it.
P.S. Just to clarify....this was a slant top machine, not a Fortune II machine, it's more like an S-Plus model (not sure what to call it)

The PE+ Clear is pretty straight forward.

When you pop in the Clear Chip you should get a visual set of instructions, they vary a bit depending on the chip. Essentially its a YES/NO followed by a count down.
What the clear chip does is basically format the CMOS - there are two chips - one is on the motherboard (fixed board that the MPU plugs into) and the other is on the MPU (removeable board in the tray).

Depending on the series of clear chip - and there are several - the format of the CMOS may now be different than the game chip in the MPU.
This results in the CMOS error.

If you get the CMOS error you press the white test button until it goes away, basically the CMOS is formatted to the required format.

As to the specifics - as the PE+ matured - so did gaming regulations pertaining to accounting so old features like a selection of 12 winning songs got replaced with more accounting registers.

At one time all slot statistics were collected by writing down the value of manual meters, and counting quarters.
Later on this was still done but they validated the internal statistics against the meters.

With the most modern of the machines this information is collected by SAS in a central computer in real time.
The data is always (always) kept on the machine so gaming regulators can go and audit them at anytime.
Clears are very rarely done in the wild and usually only with gaming board oversite.
