Bally Mustang
« on: August 28, 2022, 01:24:15 AM »
I'm working on a bally mustang 918, the credit bureau is still there and counts up for every coin that is put in.
Winnings are paid out immediately.
I have soldered all the cables that were intentionally disconnected when it was converted from a credit machine to a direct payer.
But I would like to have it back to register the profits in the credit bureau again.
There are two loose cables on the hopper that I wonder where they were, does anyone have any idea where they should be.

White  / blue wires are associated with high voltage.
The white / yellow? I’ll have to research.
It’s possible to reconnect wires by evidence left at the scene.
For example, the white / blue appears to have  been cut on a diagonal.
Inspection of the unit could turn up the corresponding end.
Same with the other wire.
Possibly the white / blue wire was cut from the coin diversion knife coil.
This part has a square appearance with a gold finish.
Check underneath for the solder connections.

my paperwork says the 918 is the basic mustang, while the 918-1 is mustang with diverter (mechanism on door to direct coin to overflow instead of hopper when the hopper is full).

the paperwork for the 918-1 is on https://bingo.cdyn.com/slots/

assuming your machine is the same as the paperwork, the switch stack by the hopper motor is the hopper cam switches:

switch #1 (bottom switch) - schem G2 -  white wire 50 and green wire 40 on the blades.  120V circuit for hopper motor control to make sure the motor stays on until the hopper cam switches are open.  If it doesn't work, it's probably not a big deal.  May result in a coin payout being off +/- a coin - depends on the timing of a coin roller switches, the payout counter stepping up and the payout relay unpowering.

switch #2 - schem F9 - blue/yellow wire 23 and grey/black wire 98 on the blades - replay register step-up coil circuit

can't see on your pic the complete wiring of the hopper cam switches, but obviously it's not right currently.

the other cut wire is white/blue?  If yes, is it going to a switch on the payout relay?   If yes, it's probably wire 52-1 (schem F12) and the cut end should be attached to the hopper switches that get operated when a coin goes under the roller.  Looks like it's a circuit that allowed cashing out credits - making the hopper eject coins and decrementing the replay register until the register was zeroed.

you'll probably want to remove the top bolt from the payout counter frame, loosen the bottom bolt and flip down the payout counter so you can see the ratchet/gear side to see where the wire could go.

post as many pics as you like, and if bored email the highest possible resolution pictures to slotpics@cdyn.com and I'll add them to the above site.  A pic of the entire front of the game and as many internal pics as you have patience for is helpful, as well as a pic of the lamp side of the top insert when the glass is removed.

Photos attached white yellow wire from 831 ZE might help.

Really can’t tell if the cut wire is solid white or white-yellow.
Also can’t see under the the black circle if the contacts at the right is missing a wire.
Possibly the white blue..

Schematic for the machine would be the best bet.

Thank you for the answers.
Here are some more pictures of the hopper.
The credit bureau is still on the machine, it picks up one digit per coin.
Even the button to pay out the credit is still there and works.
It would be fun if you could also get the profits in the credit.
I will send pictures to the email address.

the 918-1 was never intended to pay out in coins directly.  To get coins out, you had to push the collect button.

to make the game pay coins, someone rewired to make the coins ejecting step up the payout counter (similar to the standard bally circuit, but not as failsafe using just one switch like they did).

first pic below is your current hopper switches.

to put it back see second picture below:

p2a] the grey/black and green/black wires on the hopper roller switches are wrong.  Both those wires should attach to the top hopper cam switch (grey/black and green/black arrows).  Note the grey/black wire connects to two switch blades.  Bend the lower switch solder tab up so it's closer to the upper one and strip enough wire off the grey/black wire to connect both blades ... or use a bare jumper wire to connect the blades if the wire is too short.

p2b] the white wire goes on the bottom switch

third pic is how the hopper cam switches should look:

p3a] the left three switch blades all connect to the orange/red wire (71-4 on the schem at F12).  Add a bare wire to attach the middle blade to the upper where the green/black wire used to be.
p3b] your loose white/blue wire (52-1) connects to the upper right lug where the grey/black wire was

the grey/black and green/black wires circled in red are the ones that connect to the top hopper cam switch.

I'm not too happy about the white/blue wire in the wire nut (4th picture) - especially since it looks like it ties to a white/yellow or grey/yellow wire - maybe it doesn't.    Where is the other end of the white/blue wire going?   It may be power jumpering and is ok, but worth checking.

Thank you for a good and comprehensive answer.
I have a map of where the white/blue wire goes, will send over that.
I have restored the coin strainer with the three contacts on the left side of the wheels.
What is missing there is the chrome plate with the coin slot in it, as well as the chute where the coins go to the coin strainer.
