Title: GameKing board identification
Post by: sccarlso on December 18, 2022, 12:59:15 PM
Hi,

Picked up a nice GameKing for $700 that’s very nice.  I’m familiar with PE+ & S+ boards but not the I series.

Can any of the pros tell me the board type, and the key and clear chips it needs?

It has a great game set & is multi denomination, but I’d like to see if anyone has a list, or recommends the best game set, and if adding RAM or such is beneficial.

Thanks in advance!  Love the forums, the members are a big help!

That is 3902 platform.  You cannot add ram.  17, 22 and 40 keychips covers most all 3902 games.  I believe that game set calls for key17.

Great info & help, thank you!

I have a fairly good selection.  But what caught my eye was a GK 6.2 which I can’t find a board & chip set for.

I “believe” to run 6.2 I need a 044 upgrade board which I’ve seen for sale with no roms.

Is this the case?  If I add a 044 upgrade which replaces the “light” daughterboard.  Could I run GK 6.2 with the proper roms?

The only reference of this GK 6.2 with 77 games was on a full GK slot for sale.  Which lists the version & game set which is listed below.  From others I’ve seen though, the 044 board has newer soldered in SMT roms.  While this 044 “upgrade” board has DIP socketed eproms.  So a bit confusing whether this “upgrade” from 3902 to 044 should have sockets or soldered roms.

Is there a board swap or upgrade that I could run this GK 6.2 set on my machine?

Greatly appreciate any insight!  Thanks!

To upgrade to 044 (6.x) you will need:

044 backplane  - 044 MPU - 044 flashboard (has the game set software on it)  Running about $500 for all 3 boards right now.  PM if interested.

Appreciated friend!

I see numerous eBay listings for 044 boards with game sets included.  Seems they’re the most advanced games you can get for the I platform.  But are single games & not multi as they apparently use newer flash chips just for the one advanced game.

Example: https://www.ebay.com/itm/284810472121?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=YFNmzYVbSzO&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=d_r1zrCHRrq&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY (https://www.ebay.com/itm/284810472121?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=YFNmzYVbSzO&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=d_r1zrCHRrq&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY)

If I need a new backplane to use a 044 board like this one listed on eBay, which would I need?

Since my current 3902 board has I believe some 50 poker/keno/bj/slot games, I’m inclined to keep that instead of switching to a single advanced game.  But I would like to use the GK 6.2 as it has 77 games & seems to be a very popular set.

Do you know if I do get lucky and find this GK 6.2 77 game set with a 044 board.  Do all game sets on the 044 boards have soldered in eproms which I can’t change? So I have to get the board & game set as one, and would still need the same new backplane?

And if I did acquire a 044 & new backplane to for example use that board on the eBay listing.  Do I still have the ability to just swap trays to switch back to  my existing 3902 board?  Or would the old backplane need to be put back in as well to do this?  And if I did swap, either forward to the 044 or back to the 3902, will it need to be cleared with a clear chip and enabled again with a key chip?  Or can the boards just be swapped?

Sorry for what might be simple questions.  It’s just a new platform to me entirely.

Many thanks!

Sixcardmark offered up a 044 Game King Multi set for $500, which is a good deal. especially since the proper backplane boards are getting harder to find. Some eBayers promote enhanced S2000 backplane boards as "044", but they aren't.  Pay attention to the details, it will say Game King Deluxe in the right top corner.

the 3902 board uses the same backplane board as an S2000. the 044 board uses it's own backplane. Switching back and forth may be something you would consider until you try the 044 version. After that , I doubt you would want to switch back.  If you did, and assuming your battery in your old board is still good, you wouldn't need to clear or setup, it would continue where it left off.
Instead of converting back to the 3902, you could use a legacy board adapter, which allows the use of older igames on the 044 board. This goes in place of the flash game board that sits on top of the 044 board.
Changing the game on an 044 is a matter of changing the flash board, and performing a ram clear + setup of course.

I hope this helps

Thanks,
Wayne

here are pictures from a misleading s2000 enhanced board. they wrote 044 in the title, but it's not.

Hi sixcardmark,
I am in the same situation, wanting to upgrade from a 3092 to 044 but am a little hesitant about the eBay route.
Is there anyway you could PM me?
Thanks!
