Just removed the varta battery and the u16 chip from a 1270 enhanced board....
Getting this message...
"Displays Netplex link is down"
Any ideas???
-
Can you post a picture of where you did the work on the MPU board? What the red led blinking on the MPU board?
-
Machine was working fine...
Removed the varta battery an u16 as advised
mpu lights up like a christmas tree ...all lights on
Maybe I need to jumper varta connections?
-
It has some corrosion damage for sure, but you removed it correctly. Is the red led blinking when it's turned on?
Doesn't require any jumpers.
-
I had the same thing happen to me. The board was working fine before removing the Varta and u-16. I Haven't looked into trying to fix it yet. I believe I will have to replace u-16 and a new Varta.
-
there is a fix for that condition, contact lookes , he can fix the board for you.

Definitely do not need to replace Varta and U16, that won't solve the problem.
Lookes did several for me and they work perfectly.
PM Lookes.
-
Tilt...
All mpu lights are all on solid except the 3rd down from top and the red at the bottom are flashing...
The "displays netplex link is down" message is also flashing in the display
-
Yeah, the MPU isn't booting correctly. Check with lookes as others have suggested.

PM sent.

Ok, now when I power up this machine I get the flashing message "displays Netplex link is down" until I close the door, then the machines boots up runs fine...
I attempted to run a keychip 45 on it to change some settings to get the printer working and it just sits there...no amber lights...
I remove the key chips, reinsert the game chip and it will boot up only if I close the door...

There's a multi-colored ribbon cable that runs up from the display driver circuit board on the door panel, to the reel glass blue VFD display.
Make sure it is not loose and securely pushed into the displays' connector housing.
The ribbon cable runs under the door cable up to the display.
Rarely but sometimes it does work itself loose from the reel glass display.

i have a 1270 board and the battery is needed ..the reason being that if the the green battery is the main battery and the flat battery is the secondary....if the battery goes dead the vert battery will keep you from having to reprogram the whole machine just the enhanced sounds...
-
I got this one going for now...I believe I had a poor connection between the mpu and the backplane...
I was able to key it, change the printer settings and now it boots up and runs as it should...time will tell...lol

That's Great, Papa!
I have two 1270s running without the Varta, it is definitely not needed.
Coin battery is for board settings, and I have replaced it without having to re-setup. Varta is for Casino Security during a power off situation, and is not needed for home use.
Varta will leak and damage your board, it is not "if", it is "when". Definitely not worth the risk to me.
Lookes did the work, ask him to confirm.

Rpowell18 I have never had to reprogram the whole machine due to a battery change, and I don't have Varta batteries on any of mine. That includes 1270 boards.
