Title: Best Bill Validator for S Plus
Post by: jonbbrew on February 04, 2023, 07:50:20 PM
Hello all,

I haven't really dealt with the bill validator issues on all of my slots. I just figured they need help so I don't really know which work or not really. (I will have to do that some day soon). But first I want to learn more about them to know what I am getting into and is it worth it. What BV is the best for Splus machines and what are the limitations, cost, etc...

Thanks...

Best unit is WBA. An S+ can not except new 100's.

The latest DBV is the WBA 12/13 ID023. If you do a search you will find what you need to make the conversion. It will depend on what is in your machine at this time.

There is also protocol convertors that will allow a newer 026 (S2000) series validator with an S+
I don't know anyone on this forum that has purchased one but if you do a forum search there is a fair bit of information on them.

IGT stopped paying JCM (the company that makes the validators) to create new currency profiles for the 023 protocol
- physically speaking the WBA 12 for protocol 26 or protocol 23 is the same other than the internal software.

With the S+ you will also need a SET chip to tell the slot what denomination it is. These are readily available.
That way when you put in a dollar - the slot knows to change that for 4 credits if you SET your denomination to 0.25 or a single credit if you SET the machine to $1
You can find more information on how to use a SET chip in Ricks FAQs by going to the NLG home page - bottom right.

Hi, whatdo I need to do to convert the dbv200 to wba 12/13? Do I need an adaptor or harnes?. I have the set chips for s+. I want to use the new bills on S+

You can only get so far.......the DBV 200 can get you as far as everything but the latest $100
Going to the WBA gets you into newer hardware but same limitation.

The latest bills and any that come after it will and cannot be supported by S+
Each slot machine has a protocol type of how they interface with the bill validator and no one is paying JCM (makes or DBV, WBA etc) to continue development.

Now there is a device known as a protocol convertor. I haven't used one, but there are videos around and if you search this forum with that term you can find some youtube videos etc. Basically it will allow you to use a S2000 head (I think protocol 24) and have it convert to the one that the S+ uses. Presumably if this works then you can use all the latest money.

So without the protocol convertor, doesn't matter what BVs the S+ use, it can't detect the new $100 due to support. So only s2000 can accepts the new bills?

Qestions#2 can all DBV models be converted to the WBA 12/13 even if t doesn't accepts the new $100? What IDXXX eeprom would I need to make it work?

The DBV (Dollar Bill) 45,145,200 have interchangeable heads.
45/145 can't be upgraded to any of the new money.
The head is easily swapped out but going from 145 --> 200 you need the large power supply from the 200.

For the WBA (World Bill) both the head and the transport need to be swapped as the WBA is designed to be able to be used with world currencies that differ in size. I believe the 13/14 models also detect the magnetic properties of the bill for advanced fraud detection.

Bally, Aristocat, etc all still accept the Murrieta of US currencies but they also all use different protocols from the S+
So a protocol convertor is the way to go if you want to use all the latest bills.

I dont know the eprom number but I am sure some of the others here would be able to tell you. Member JIM is our resident validator specialist.
