Title: Someone refresh my memory on CLEAR chip versions
Post by: TexasMark on March 06, 2015, 01:34:04 PM
It's been quite a while since I messed around with my S+ machines. It's been so long, that I have forgotten how I did some of my mods (like the eeprom statistics reader).  :duh:   So, I have been working on writing up some documentation from all of my scribbled notes, etc.

Anyway, I was looking at my clear chip bin files and I have 2 versions. one is labeled IVC006 which is identical to what I bought on ebay many years ago and is the one I have on a physical eprom. The other one is labeled IVC103. The bins are not identical. Does anyone know what the difference is, and if the IVC103 would be the better one to use for any particular reason?  :Scratch-Head:

Well, judging from the sound of crickets, I guess I'm on my own.  :arrowthruhead:

I did notice there was some information in the FAQ above. If that information is correct, I may have a SET006 and not a IVC006 since that list says IVC006 is for a PE+ and I don't have one of those. So I guess the IVC103 is the best option.

I also noticed that list has it as IVC0103, not IVC103, and rickhunter calls it a IVC103 too. So there may be a discrepancy somewhere.

I wish I could help! I'm here fairly often but limited in my knowledge still. And the people that I was learning from are gone.
I do my best to look up stuff but sometimes it just isn't out there.

IVC123 and the Set015 are the standard for a simple clear and bill validator enable, unless you have a special needs  SP chip . Tokenization, Montana credits, $0.01 or $0.05 setup , EFT ect...

What SP chip are you running and we can see if the PSR is here to tell you the correct chips to use.

Hmm... According to that list IVC006 is for a PE+, but I am 99% sure that is the chip I got on ebay years ago (it matches the IVC006 bin I have) and I had used it successfully in my S+.  But admittedly, it has probably been 4 or 5 years since I used a clear chip. I would just reload the eeprom from a backup when I was messing with reading the statistics out of it with that statistics display I had built.
So I will just go with the IVC103 and call it a day. Thanks.

I found two more documents that state that the IVC006 is a PE+ RAM and E-square clear while the IVC103 is listed as an S+ RAM and E-square clear.

They're probably identical for home use, but that is how they're officially listed. Hope that helps some.
I don't have specific doc files for those chips.

Glad to see you back, Poppo. I haven't been around much, either.

P.S. The only PSR I could find that lists the IVC103 is SP1213.
I have no files that list the IVC006.

All about it on the old forum

Basically, I was reading the data stored in the eeprom to calculate  stats. The only drawback is the eeprom is only updated every 100 pulls, so the data won't always be in real time. But over a long perod, it will be fairly accurate.
I never did get around to making it so that it would "poll" the eeprom automatically (I used a manual push button to do it). The problem is that you have to make sure you don't try to poll the eeprom while the machine is trying to write to it.

It's been so long I think I forgot which socket I'm supposed to put the clear chip in!?!  :dancing_2:   :rotfl:

We had a guy recently pull the CMOS and put the clear chip in it instead of the SP. He still can't get any displays to work. Must have ruined the board. Before he did it he had 61-2. Then he put the CMOS back the wrong way.
