   GK bulb replacement help needed
« on: November 02, 2007, 08:15:49 AM »

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Anybody have any tips on how to get to the bulbs in the buttons? I was able to get to one, but the rest seem impossible without taking the door componets off. Tried prying off a button to access them, broke the bulb and pushed the holder out of the socket. Of course it's the one behind the coin comparator. Also what bulb # is this? I tried one from my S+ and it seems too bright.
Thanks,
Izzy

those look like small vlt buttons.  they pull straight out.  grasp the switch, wiggle and pul.

the small lamps are #73 - 14 volts.

The S+ bulbs are 6v, so when you put them on the GK at 14v, you get extra bright, burn out FAST bulbs.  If you are going to change the bulbs, you might as well get LEDS.  You can use the 12volt ones.

I fygured how to get them out, but can't reach most of them. Haven't tried needle nose with angle tip. How about the ones behind the coin mech? Does it snap out? Thanks for the bulb info.

or pull the top clear plastic up and out.  I use a small flat tool and they just pop out to reveal the bulb

What did use to remove the bulb? I tried with a needle nose and ended up breaking it.

This is the way some Wms techs do it. Sound the same as the previous discussions.

I'll try that way again, but I couldn't get a grip on the little bugger. Maybe some rubber tubing in the end of my needle nose would help. Can anybody tell me how to get the coin comparator out?
thanks,
Izzy

Ron, are the IGT and other LEDs polarized too? I don't remember noticing any marks or the need to put them in a certain way. Did I goof?

K+ for the pdf instructions.

It's the same way I documented on my post as the WMS manual but the I have cracked the bulb a few times pulling it out with plyers so make sure the machine is off or you can short the I/O card.

To get a better grip on the bulb, I pushed on some 3/16 shrink tubing. It fit perfectly snug and allowed me a better grip. It also was a good way to put the replacement bulb back in. Just slip the new bulb in the tubing, put a little pressure on the socket from  below and guide in tne new bulb.
thanks to one and all again.
