Problem with my BB2 XD
« on: October 31, 2022, 05:18:18 PM »
I'm hoping this is the right place to post this.

Suddenly my BB2 XD won't load certain games, like Lil Red, Van Helsing, and others.  It will only load the older type games like Jackpot party and Ruby Slippers.  The error is shown in the pic. It's a big call attendant and frozen.

Machine has fresh batteries in it (problem was happening before I changed batteries).   The problem began after I tried to boot up a game I bought on Ebay, that was the first time I saw the issue.  It's not the dongle reader as other older dongle games work ( like Jackpot Comet).    Any ideas?

turn jackpot reset key to see why the game is telling you to call attendant.  It is impossible to tell what is going on with just the Call Attendant window up.

Thanks for replying, yeah I forgot to include that photo.  It does say power issue, but other games play fine.  I do have a power issue to the printer which is a different problem.

There are a series of leds that are just below the mpu on the bottom right that are on the backplane.  These leds represent the power state for all voltage rails, are they all lit and green?  You may have cap issues on the power supply.  The newer games do put more stress on hardware overall, but it is strange that it will fault out that early in the process.  Do you even get a chance to start the configuration process or does it fault out before?  I would try a different mpu first to see if it solves the issue, then power supply if it doesn't.

All lights are green, in the XD mpu (reversed mounted) I see the 4 lights on the left side, and 1 on the right flickering green.  All other lights are also solid green near the power source.

No it won't allow me to configure.

Very strange all of the sudden, I will have to wait till I can buy extra mpu and power supply just to test it.

Thanks for trying.

Try removing the connector from the backplane to printer and bill validator, see if the power issue goes away.
Curious.

I just got this error.   BB2e was up and running for a few days, then turned off.   Thought it was the bill validator, so I ran the machine with it unplugged, which ran for a few more days and turned off again.      From that point on, after switching the power off and back on again, it would boot and spit a ton of errors to the screen about PS Power Fail .............   or something like that.     Eventually the game would crash to the call attendant button.

I replaced the CPU.     Same issue.
I replaced the $TT#%G%# backplane.    SAME issue.
I replaced the power supply and the issue went away and the machine has been working fine for a couple of weeks.

I put the power supply on my bench setup and the problem follows the power supply.

So I am going to say bad power supply.    I'd try to figure it out but power supplies scare me.
