Bringing a Wild Cherry back to life
« on: November 15, 2022, 08:24:40 PM »
Wild Cherry in the house!  Following prompts from previous post and checked the battery, zero reading. Lithium Omni Cell 3.6 V Ordered one. I believe that is my first task. Included pictures for those who can help trouble shoot.  I have not tried to plug it in yet.  It seems like there are a lot of cords unplugged. It can run without the bill collector, Correct. How about the little red wire on the hopper, one side not connected to anything. Thanks in advance!

Thank you!
I also have seen on other pictures that the red wire needs to be attached to the hopper as a ground.? Does that sound correct. Any place?

The wire, per your pic, is connected at one end to the chassis already.
That is the ground end. The hopper removal is not constrained in any way by a wire.

I am out of town otherwise I would look at mine for you but I suspect the loose end goes to a pole that is at the top of the hopper. It senses the hopper is full.

Find a metal bolt about an inch long with a nut that will fit thru the 3rd hole from the top of the hopper bowl.
Here's a couple of photos to show you what I mean.
I circled the bolt that goes thru the hopper bowl.
You can see the red wire going to the outside on the bolt head.
The 2nd photo is the nut side on the inside of the hopper bowl.
When the coins fill up inside of the bowl and touch the grounding bolt, the divertor gate under the coin comparitor activates to direct all coins to fall down thru a drop hole at the bottom of the cabinet into a pail below.

Thanks so much so far!

Battery replaced, Fired up machine.           Error 61 the door code says its Bad CMOS RAM
I have been reading in some other posts on Error 61, but it seems like the machines must be different, because they say it could be because of a disconnected wire or something, so I think  I will need some help.

Originally I was thinking I needed a new RAM chip. Are there other trouble shooting options?

Thanks again!

You need to press the little white test button for a few seconds...
You may or may not hear it make a "ding!" sound?...the display should go to [61-1].
From there, close the door and turn the Jackpot reset key momentarily.

The reels will spin from right to left and then the game should be ready to accept a coin that matches the one in the coin comparitor.
If your reel glass lamps aren't burned out, the "Insert Coin" message should be lit up.

Yes I did the test button and I got [61-1]
I closed the door and tried what I assume is the Jackpot reset key. (outside right side of case above the pull handle) my key only turned about 1/12 of the way. I am assuming it is not the right key.
I'd guess that the key should have turned about 1/4 turn.

I will try to get the proper key.

Took a switch out of another machine. It now works to reset.
Closed the door did a reset.  nothing
But some lights were lit so I hit the buttons on the front.
2 flash 1  (2f1) by the play credits when I hit the play credits button it went down to 1f0

Reset
This time I hit the Spin Reels button
9999 9999         9 hit again
--00  ----           3    "
50--  ----           4    "
0-00  ---0          5
alternate with
-000  ---1               "      same alternate thing for 6, 7, 8
0000  0000        0   "
                         1

Opened the door hit the button, now only 61 showed no -1
Closed the door, reset key
Still does not take a quarter
hit Spin reels
0002  0042                      hit SReels again
0046  0001       8                        "
--80   ----         9                       "
---4   ----         3f0
Then after a bunch of spin reels the REELS SPUN  yay!
1-01   2            2
2-01   2            2
1-01   3            2
1-00   4            2
I think if I remember right it cycled thru a bunch of these, Spun the reels, stopped at the same location and maybe changing the 2 to a 3 then 4 and so on in the credits played window.
I think somewhere I read about how to find the last few pay outs, that is what it reminded me of.

Also now only the top candle flashes, before both the top and bottom did.   Still does not take a quarter. There is a quarter in the coin comparator.
Progress?

When you get 61 press the test button until it dings and changes to 61_1, then close door and latch it and then turn the j/p reset key and wait for the reels to spin.

Ok so I tried to do what you speak of.
I used to be able to hit the button and it would ding and go to [61-1]

But now it does not do that.  Turn power off, wait, turn it on, 61 shows up. hit the button, 61 goes away for about 3 seconds sometimes a 1 flashes, but goes away.  Then the 61 shows up again.

Before I would get the 1 to show up, close the door turn the j/p switch, but I never got the reels to turn.

Sounds like you have the dreaded 61 loop - common after a battery change.
You need a clear chip.

Yep, time to use a clear chip if 61 keeps coming back.

Send a PM to member RB for clear chip.  Instructions can be found in the S+ FAQ section, here's a link:

http://newlifegames.com/nlg/index.php?topic=15747.0 (scroll all the way down for a you tube video)

If your machine has a bill validator you will also need a set15 chip.  Get both from RB.

Progress update,  not completely cured.
Did the IVC123 and followed the video - things went well got the 61 error reset button to 61-1, jackpot key to 65-1 error.  Just like in video BUT after I did the jackpot key reset I get 0000 0000 on my screen with a 0/1 flashing in coins played window
What should I try next

If you look back at pictures I do have the wiring for a bill validator, but I do not have a bill validator.
not sure if that matters

Having a bill validator doesn't matter.
Have you tried inserting any coins ?

Have you opened and closed the door - do the reels spin after the door is closed again ?

So I just turned it on. 61 shows up, reset button, ding 61-1  close the door rest key 1 turn, 65-1, reset 1 turn 0000 0000 0/1 only top candle on.
Open and close the door, no change, but  now both top an bottom candle flashing.
In the picture you will notice not all 0000 0000 are lit, but they are thru the camera lens you can see them pulsing.
The reels have never spun in this whole process.

I also got a SET015 chip, but I have not used it.
