Top Dollar / Double Top Dollar re-creation

Hello all,

I'm relatively new to the whole slot machine space, however, I do have substantial experience in programming and electronics. My question is, what prevents any slot owner from buying the sound, version and game chips, then recreating the top? Does the top have proprietary communications that prevent its recreation? Otherwise it would just be a massive LED array. Other then the top, I don't see why you couldn't recreate the machine.

Why would you want to re-create a slot machine top?  I think most people prefer the genuine article and enjoy restoring it to its original glory. I'm not sure what satisfaction there is in a custom-built slot. It's like owning a fake antique.

Its more about the game then having a genuine machine. Its similar to how there are reproduction video games that come in the original cartridges, but are not 100% authentic. Plus its a fun challenge.

Also, would you happen to own a double top dollar machine? I would like to confirm the correct layout for reel strips if possible.
