Title: Bill Validator - types
Post by: NeoNeo2 on July 26, 2017, 11:26:57 AM
So I have these JCM Bill Validator and both works, but when I plug it in Bally Alpha only one is accepted.  Can someone enlighten me and if you have a solution to make them both work.

Are both of them out of the bally alpha machines? Could just be something as simple as incorrect software.

One has the RS-232 board and the other doesn't. Bally needs an RS-232 to work.  :cool_thumb_up:

3rd pic, Right BV has the board (yellowed looking thing).

Can the other one be modified to have that Board and make it work?  Are the board easily found here in NLG?

You can get the boards, $25ish. Unsure if you need to flash that BV with the newest software though too.

So how much does an MEI cost and does it need conversion?

All bill validators contain specific software for communicating with the slot machine they are installed in. So unless you get one that came out of the same type of machine that you have or a machine made by the same slot company (IGT, Bally, Williams, etc), then you usually have to get the correct bill validator software loaded. On older bill validators the software is in an eprom and can often be replaced fairly easy. On newer BV's the software is inside a flash rom that is soldered to the circuit board and you have to have a special setup to load new software into it.

This comm software is often called the "id protocol" or just the BV "id" software. It has a number, like "ID-044" or whatever.

Neo, I am sure someone will contact you on your options as far as BV's goes.  I don't have any for sale as I use them for diff. applications and don't bother with the time of day on tire kickers here on all that stuff. Find you a Deal I don't have any-Only stuff that is new or like new and works for years.

The validator without the RS-232  board on it has an IGT sticker, so unless it was re-flashed for IDO 003, you will need to do that as well as get the rs-232 board.  Those little boards are getting harder to find.  I would recommend doing what 777sizzler said.  Just get an Mei 6607 flashed with bally software.  You will also need the harness to connect it.
