Title: E2226-T Ballys reels don't stop at all
Post by: Akriegs on February 02, 2018, 08:43:19 PM
I picked up a Ballys E2226 Machine that looks awesome but doesn't play.  I turn it on put quarter in the wheels spin the insert coin and coin accepted lights are both on and wheels spin until they slow down.i can also pull again without putting any coins in. I ran the test mode 2 and heard 1401,1402,1403 all sound off. When i run test 8 with the door wide open it will stay at 80. If i close slightly it goes back to error 50 as if door is open.I also had an issue with the wheel stopping as soon as i pulled handle. I took the wheels out and changed the wheel reader on number 1. it seemed to solve that issue so i put original wheel reader back and i have not had any issues. i have another working E1XXX machine to reference to if i need. Any help would be awesome. I attached a photo. of what looks like 3 solenoids. Do these often go bad?
What are they used for?

UPDATE: i took my other machine and took the wheel mechanism and i got the wheels to start and almost stop. I am getting error 43. I am not sure the wheels are spinning fast enough for it to stop. I changed the wheel reader 3 times with spares i have. How can i get the wheels to spin faster . The first 2 seem to spin fine but the 3rd is very sluggish.

You need to lube oil and clean the real machine

What parts need to be lubed? can you illustrate?
when i spin the wheel with my fingers i can see the reel 3 only spins shortly while the other 2 spin on and on. I am not sure if take the reels off the spindle to clean or while they are on.
Can anyone elaborate?

All this little Hub in the center of the picture there is a small hole you will probably need some three-in-one oil oil all three of them and just spin them around and spin them around until they work really good there are also two black rods underneath that you need to make sure spin freely with all the parts attached to them the two black rods should spin around and around

Here are some more parts on the E-Series machine that need to be lubricated

Reels not stopping could also be a defective kick or arm switch on the side of the reel mech.
Test 2 and a manual reel spin will show the kick and arm switch codes, if one is not there then that switch is bad.

Make sure nothing is interfering with the rotation of your 3rd reel. The assembly that stops your reels also needs to be  lubricated and greased. If you remove the reels assembly, then remove the reels. The top of the tall levers you will see a roller. That part is spring loaded and should move up and down. Lower below you should see 3 more rollers on shorter levers. Those kick or spin the reels. All those different pivot points need to move smoothly and freely. The lower links need to be greased. Once this has been done the reels should work better.

Correction, test 3 not 2.

"Reels not stopping could also be a defective kick or arm switch on the side of the reel mech.
Test 2 and a manual reel spin will show the kick and arm switch codes, if one is not there then that switch is bad."

UPDATE::: seems like what ever i did helped. now i deposit a quarter the wheel spin and the machine pays out. i played about 20 times or so but every so often i would get either error 42 or 43. i would reset and would play for another 20+ spins before it happens. Do you think i need to adjust the wheel readers?
Can it be because the door handle and gears maybe a little dry on grease and the wheels don't spin super fast

The plate that rides between the reel readers is not to be centered. You want to have it closer to the left side inside edge of the reel reader without touching. You might want to try cleaning the sensor holes inside the reel readers with a q-tip. If you continue to have problems with the reel readers causing error codes, I can rebuild them for you. I have new infrared transmitter and the photo transistor eyes. Then I test then in my reel reader Tester to check for any low reading on each sensor. Try cleaning and adjusting them first.

i cleaned the wheel reeder and i also moved it closer. i am still having issues with wheels 2 and 3 stopping together.
i just bought all 3 wheel reeders on ebay so i assuming they are good. i also swapped them out with each other.

i just switched wheel reeder 1 with wheel reeder 3 and i am still having issues with wheel 3. I assume since i did not have any issues with wheel reeder 1 that i am not having wheel reeder issues. it must be something else. Any suggestions how i should work backwards to fix this issue? I will be able to get 10-20 spins before wheel error 43 appears. could it be something to do with wheel speed?

The game does know what RPM that the reels are spinning. So if your still having a problem with a slower 3rd reel, then the machine will throw the error massage.

I am going to grease up all the handle area this weekend to see if it makes a difference. I am also looking for a door lock for Ballys E -series. Does anyone have 1 for sale? I will take 2 if you have more than 1?
Does anyone know the length of the shaft needed for the door?
