Title: Paging OldReno, Need help on bally slot & model of it!!
Post by: mrcrazy on August 12, 2020, 09:54:44 PM
I have been through this slot for days now, I have ohmed out all the switches, properly gapped, cleaned all plugs, connectors, but no matter what I do the coin relay up top always resets the coin unit & it never accepts a coin. the relay behind the coin mech never energizes so it never accepts a coin. Tested all coils all good. Far from my first bally EM slot but this one is killing me. Seems the cabinet was redone so there are no plates to tell me the model number, I did attach some pics.
I typed a huge previous post and attached pics & of course it told me the files were too big & I lost the whole post....crap. Anyways, I need some help, still reading tons of posts to try & help me.Also this machine was hacked either by someone who knew how to do it or didnt know what they were doing. The first thing I noticed was the plunger that goes through the white nylon tube on the right side of the reel unit was GONE & the 2 switches its supposed to trip were barely attached with one screw. Luckily I had a parts unit so I installed a plunger & put everything back to spec. On the left side of the reel unit the top switches the thick yellow wire was lopped off & the other side of that switch the wire is gone, cant find it. The very lower switches they cut the yellow wires off that switch stack but left the 2 yellow wires together at least. Seems they were trying to bypass something.Anyways, ANY help or model number would help me, these posts have been very helpful like always but still cant get any life from this machine. Pics attached any any info would be truly appreciated.

could be a 1090.

got P-684-xxx numbers stamped on the slotted metal reel index discs?

if you're a schematic guy, look for 1090 schems in http://bingo.cdyn.com/slots/ (http://bingo.cdyn.com/slots/1090.)

the 1090-1 and 1090-7 were quarter machines, the -7 was an MGM casino game.  If you reel tapes don't have an mgm symbol someplace, then 1090-1 is a better bet.

if the handle release coil isn't tripped, then closing the coin switch will power the coin relay and also reset the coin unit.

if the game rejects all coins, then the coin lockout coil behind the coin mech isn't being powered.  It should be powered unless the coin lockout relay (different device) is powered.

thanks bally ... coin relay, coin lockout relay, coin lockout coil.  Three different devices with similar names.

the yellow wire(s) are wire 30 ... the common power wire.   got picture of that area?

Well, after a lot of cleaning & adjusting I now have the machine accepting coins, releasing the handle & all reels are spinning properly.my last problem is the payout, it WONT pay out ANYTHING at all. I have been through the payout unit a few times but no luck. the unit WAS resetting after a pull but now it does not for some reason. I have added an eraser to the stop on the payout unit, ohmed out and adjusted it where its landing on the proper pads when I step it up, but still no joy.....
any ideas?
thanks in advance,
Greg

it the tilt light isn't on, the hopper cutoff relay should be ok (assuming you have a hopper cutoff relay).

you can do a quick check with an ohmeter and game power off:

1] set up a cherry winner on the reels.  Make sure handle is locked.
2] remove hopper
3] on the hopper socket, stick one meter probe on wire 60-1 and other probe on wire 13.

if you don't get almost zero ohms, check the coin relay switch wire 60-1 to 63-3 and handle release relay switch wire 63-3 to 90.    If those look ok, you can yank the reels and on the reel plugs measure ohms between wires 90 and 13.

if you did get almost zero ohms, something is wrong with the hopper plug connection on wire 13 (not likely if all pays don't work), the payout relay coil is bad, or the hopper cutoff relay isn't powered.

if that doesn't make sense, yell.

just to make sure ... by hopper socket, I mean the part inside the cabinet.

you may need to look at the hopper plug or the socket wiring to verify the orientation compared to the chart on the schematic.  I always forget  if pin 1 is the top-left pin on the socket or on the plug.

1. Check the payout relay on the back of the hopper. The hopper motor might not be getting power.
   No power no pay.

2. Zero stop switch can be temperamental.

3. Set up a 3 orange pay, should be continuity across the wiper boards then to the beau-plug.
From there to the 10 solder joint on the payout step up unit.

Thanks guys, I got it, for the 5th time I did the payout unit & for some reason it liked me this time!! Dont really know what I did as I cleaned & ohmed it out a few times, maybe it was the connector pins as I did clean those also.
thanks for all the help & advice!
