Title: Slot Stand - Build it yourself $25
Post by: TODSZX on August 23, 2015, 10:11:07 PM
Hi,

I built my slot stands based on FireballJackpots design. Hope Fireball is cool with it.
My issue was the plywood and cutting angles.
I drive a Honda Civic and there's no way to transport a 4ft x 8ft sheet of plywood.
I'm using 2x6's for my top piece and just cut square pieces.
It seems really stable and strong.
I just have some basic wood working tools.
A square, worm-drive Skilsaw and a drill.

I wrote the dimensions on the lumber. Think is readable with some zoomage.
Hope you like:

More photos of the project:

I'm drilling pilot holes so as not to crack the wood.
Drilling the 2 1/2" drywall screws deep enough so they don't stick out and catch anything.

More photos of the project:

No issue with gravity loads. A 2x4 post will carry a substantial amount of weight.

Was worried about lateral forces.
I've pushed and pulled without any deflection.
The sheer capacity of the screws seems adequate.
I have 3 friends that are structural engineers.
Mostly I don't have a clue what they are talking about.
Picked up a few smart sounding words........haha.
Not sure why they hang out with me ???

This is the final product.
I built 3 of these guys this afternoon.
These I made 22" tall. I've done 24" & 26" - Just need 4 taller legs.
I like the 28" width for setting drinks and using as a foot stool.
The 22" depth works for all my machines and (4) 2x6's pressed together is easy.

Dimensions 28"-wide  22"-deep  22"-high

Items purchased from Lowes for one stand:

(1) 16"  2x4   =  ? (had a 2x4 piece lying around)
(2) 8ft. 2x4's  =  $5
(2) 8ft. 2x6's   =  $10
(1 1/2) cans Valspar paint+primer spray paint  =  $6
(1/2) 1 lb box 8 X 2 1/2" course thread drywall screws   =   $3.50

Total cost  $25 (+-)

Like that there is storage space underneath.
Cheers!

Todd

I finally put one of these together. I added casters so I can move the game if I need to. I have a photo of the stand when first built and a second picture of the completed stand with the machine on it

Very nice!  I like that it looks clean and simple.  Thanks for the detailed photos and info.  I just might give this a shot for my new machine :)

I discovered the other day that Home Depot will cut a 4'x8' sheet of plywood for me.Basically one sheet cut roughly 19 inches gets me (5) pieces 4 feet long. These easily fit into the back of my 1996 Geo Metro hatchback.I resized the wood to work with the 19 inch x 48 inch pieces. Each one hold 2 slot machines.Makes for a nice smooth top for sliding the machines.

Great you guys were able to do the Home Depot route. I am a custom cabinetmaker by trade, I couldn't read dimension off the pics so what are the overall dimensions of the box supposed to be ? Thanks in advance.
