Title: PE+ "LOW BATTERY"
Post by: polishdan on February 21, 2022, 08:32:11 AM
Just hit a jackpot and after refilling the hopper and closing got this message.  Curiously, I opened it back up, hit reset and jackpot, closed it back up and it reset fine.  Could this possibly be an anomaly?  I am ordering a new battery today.  Should I just test it for 3.6?  I really don't want it to go dead before I get the new one.  THX

Exactly which battery should I buy?  LS14250?

That will work.  You need one with solder tabs unless someone has installed a holder on the board already.

I always install a battery holder and the next time no soldering is required.  Here's links to what I use:

Assuming the battery is low - its not going to go dead, dead in a matter of weeks. Put the unit in storage for a year and you might have a leaky battery on your hands so you definitely want to change it sooner than later. This is also another good reason to go with the battery holder - a leaky battery will kill the holder not the board.

The game won't be playable with the low battery message, so its not something you will be able to ignore unless you also don't plan to play.

RE: Digi-Key battery holder, does this just solder to the board without any wire?
The 3.6v battery is non rechargeable?  How long does it last?

THX

The 3.6v standard battery for the slot is not rechargeable either.

They don't drain as fast at a casino as the machines are left on 24/7 and the battery is there to protect the cmos (game stats and settings) - not unusual for a casino to be running the original battery for 20yrs but in a home environment they will last 3-4 as your machine is off 80% of the time.

The stock battery has tabs on it the same as the holder shown. Replacement batteries often have wires coming off each end which depending on the mother board can either be bent like a tab and soldered or poked through on the trace (some boards have small holes) soldered and clipped.

The holder is a very graceful upgrade.

What Jay said.  Solder the holder in where the battery is, and put the battery in the holder.  I've found you'll get at least 10 years out of that battery in a S+ or PE+ machine easy.

Pic attached.

I have a PE+ I have had around 12 years now and have only replaced the battery once.
