Replaced both batteries. When initially powering machine, buzzing noise comes from mpu, and no vga message on top screen.
If I turn off the mpu only & turn it back on, machine loads normally.
We typically leave this machine turned off most of the time. Second or third time this has happened since battery change.

Always turn on both cab switches BEFORE you turn on the MPU. Also turn off the MPU BEFORE you turn off the other 2 switches. This should keep that from happening.
-
Do a search on the forum for buzzing sound on MPU and you should find a solution. I know this was a topic years ago.

Interesting^. Thanks Mark. I’ll try to boot it tomorrow without the batteries.
Strange as I did replace batteries once before when I got the machine. Just powered on a switched outlet strip since then.

Changed battery on backplane?

Changed battery on backplane?
The two batteries on the mpu

Always a good idea to replace them all at the same time on Alpha.
-
Ok, will definitely do that.
Where are the batteries, besides in the mpu?
-
There's a 2032 on the backplane.

I replaced the battery on the backplane, buzzing at startup persisted.
I pulled both batteries on the mpu, hooked it up outside of the cabinet to a pc monitor.
Monitor had no display.
I returned the mpu to the cabinet and turned on all switches at once with a power strip. Nvra error, but no buzzing.
After clear, machine powers normally without need to turn off mpu.
Not sure which step did the trick.
